Hello,

I am thinking of purchasing a Sebenza 21 Large or maybe small version. I want a plain handle.

Would you recommend purchasing this knife? I have had many benchmades and have been thinking
what is the next step in my knife owning. I looked at the sebenza and it is very nice.

I saw that there are post about the edge profile problems and that the new s35 steel has a problem rolling during cutting test on my
youtube searches.

I would like sebenza owners to weigh in on this and post pictures and comments.

This is a very expensive knife and I want to make the right decision.

Thank you all for your help. Dale

As has been mentioned in other posts, you can't go wrong with a Sebenza. To me there are significant differences between the large and small. All depends on what your intended EDC uses are. I find I can use the small for just about any and all daily cutting tasks other than food preps. In that case the larger longer blade really shines.

You might want out hold out until there's some feedback about the new Sebenza 25. The 21, however is an awesome knife either in large or small. I find myself EDCing the small more frequently--it's got nearly as much edge as a Para 2 or a Caly 3.5 in much more comfortable to carry and compact package. Both sizes are a marvel of precision and simplicity, especially in plain, IMO. If I had to get by with just one knife, though, I'd make it a large. Food prep, dressing big game, cleaning fish, heavy cutting--all totally doable with the small, but better with the large.

edge profile problems? what's this?

many here (crk subforum :D ) own and edc, carry, use, enjoy the sebbies
I have myself 5 small ones, in S30 and S35, no problem with edge or blade profiles, it cuts well, has a lot of edge and the S35 has not shown problems for me, it's just different to sharpen

I think you will be happy, I have bought my first one after years and I'm happy to have! and in fact I have 7 and 2 more crks coming...sold many many speydercos, BM's... for these

I don't think you can make a wrong decision, Dale. The Sebenza is a custom-quality knife at a custom-quality price and it comes with its own built-in secondary market. If you don't like it, you can sell it for practically what you paid for it. So there's little risk involved in trying one. It's strictly a matter of which size suits you best.

djmundle, you have posed a very good question and I think you will get a lot of feedback. It'll likely be positive feedback since you've posted in the CRK forum and we love our CRKs.
My recommendation would be to buy one used and use the living daylights out of it.....give it your all and I think it will respond favorably. If for some strange reason it does not, sell it and you likely won't lose any money in the trial period.

I had a Sebenza for a bit but got rid of it. They are very high quality, but not for everyone. I prefer the Les George VECP as it is a similar knife ine the same price range, but just felt more substantial to me. To each his own though, there are tons out the that LOVE the Sebenza.

I would repurchase my small Sebbie Raindrop Damascus in - a - heartbeat. It is a perfectly designed and constructed knife. Good luck with your decision.

Getting your first expensive knife can be an excruciating decision process, that's for sure. But you won't regret it. And then the addiction kicks in....

Excellent advice.
And if you have a particular one in mind be patient. Twice I've been waiting for a specific model to pop up on the exchange and got impatient and bought a different one... within two days the exact one I was searching for appeared. TWICE!

Yes...
I've just made a recent repurchase.
Had a large 21 for years and years and added a large black micarta to my collection.
There is something about a CRK that is simple and technologically refined...I think that's what makes them so desirable still.

My 25 is coming today. I'm waiting for a small 25 to release. I want to get a small 21 again. Out of the $2000 worth of knives I've purchased and sold in the last 6 months. Guess what....I miss and regret selling my small 21. It was perfect. So smooth. There's nothing like the smooth hydraulic opening of a Sebenza. The first time you hear it.. You get it. And when you close it and hear that other click with the perfect detent...It finally all makes sense. I've had customs and others. The quality is perfect. People make the mistake of comparing it to their $50-$200 knife. You have to compare what are getting with everything $350 and up. Then there is a reason. Good or bad.

Hi did you just swaped handle on insingo for that diamond plate, looks really good.Thinking of doing that myself.Perfect looking edc blade.:)

You cant go wrong with a sebenza 21. After purchasing my first im looking into getting more crk's. Also after handling a sebenza makes benchmade feel like a cold steel. Its like being happy with a honda then you finally experience a mercedez and never want to go back!

I did. Tho that particular knife has been sold. The diamond plate is pretty cool!

If you think Les George VECP is awesome (and it is), check out the older Original ats-34 Sebenza, you will be amazed.

I carried a benchmade minibarrage and barrage before the large 21. I would buy it again tomorrow. I kept the Bm's but they rarely see use now.

What the 21 isn't: it's not tactical. It's not a fast deploying, make-a-snappy-sound knife. It's not a mall ninja I-gotta-have-a-black-knife knife. It's an elegant user for daily carry. It won't deploy in an instant to cut your way out of a life and death situation. Hope that helps!

I am trying to resist buying a tanto as well. I have been through a couple of plain and 3 different annuals. I have been too focused on buying customs, but I am coming around. I believe a Sebenza is a great do all knife.

This is what most newcomers don't realize...good point!
