Sebenza 31, have the bugs been worked out?

Well Gentleman,

Just thought I would update this thread. I have found a large 21, not just any 21, my dream 21 with Thuya inlays. I've always liked Thuya as it's a wood referenced in the bible and I really like the look of it.

All of this thanks to a very special member here, I don't know if it's good etiquette to tag people but he knows who is and how appreciative I am.

I will still get a 31 at some point, It's hard to get excited about much else in the knife world when you have a Sebenza in the pocket.

Thank you all!

I have a question that might best be a thread of its own:

The Sebenza mentioned above is plain-Jain. Smooth green scales.

Looking ahead to Christmas and holidays in future years now . . .can I get a custome handle scale witha USMC dedicstion on it from CRK or a third party vender? Would that void the warrenty?

What asbout a damascus back spacer?

In some future year, could I get a different CRK blade installed (don't kn ow why oe what) by CRK?

CRK will do custom engraving on a PJ that leaves the warranty intact. As for different blade shapes, as I understand it you can go from Insingo to DP or tanto, but not the other way around. I could be wrong though.

I recently inquired about purchasing an insingo for one of my drop point Sebenzas and the mothership did not question me or tell me I couldn't do that, just asked if I'd like them to begin an order for me.

I was a little bit worried about the lock rock everybody spoke about for a while. Finally I got a large 31 in damascus and bog oak - and all I can say is that the knife is absoltely flawless. Perfect centered, no rock, perfect finish. With that said - it is not exactly thed same type of knife as the earlier Senezas. I still have a large Regular and a small Classic. They are smoother. The 31 is a litte bit harder to open. I belived that it would break in with time, but it is still far from my other Sebbies.
All in all - perfect knife!! King of Sebenzas so far.

My two large Sebenza 31 were harder to open out of the box vs. my large 21 but now they are really smooth. They just need some time to break in.

I have two ‘31s and both are great. The damascus blades one was smoother out of the gate for some reason, but the S45VN broke in just fine.

Second that. I also have four L31’s and find each of them perfect. Any play I’ve ever noticed was after I disassembled and maintained. A quick adjustment, then perfect. Go with ease.

I just got my first Sebenza ever. It’s impressive. There is some lock movement, but I have to really try to move it. I have only personally owned/handled one liner/framelock I can’t force play in and it’s my older Spyderco Military. It takes so much force that it’s probably abuse, honestly. So, after experiencing it once, I just decided to never try replicating it again.

I have had a back spacer screw back out, a pivot back out, and a stop pin screw back out. I put some of the supplied purple thread locker on though and haven’t experiencing any since.

I have 3-31’s and all have problems, 1- large KnifeArt DP, magnacut, 1-small KnifeArt DP, S45VN, and 1-small Micarta inlay DP S45VN. While none have any lock rock that I can detect, all 3 exhibit some slight lateral blade play, and the small inlay has an off center blade. All knives were bought here on the board in like new or excellent condition. All knives were made in ‘22, ‘23, ‘24.
I am disappointed, as I love CRK knives, but as for the 31 I am not a fan. If I could do over 21’s and Inkosis’s would be my choice.

***Had to edit my post***I tore both my large and small KnifeArt 31’s down, degreased, polished the washers, re-greased and re-assembled and now both knives no longer have any play, vertically or laterally. I’m very happy with the results. My opinion has now changed on the 31’s, love ‘em. They just needed some tlc. The small Micarta however does still have issues and will eventually have to go to the spa. It has been going to work with me for the past year so it obviously doesn’t bother me.
My large 31 is “the knife” right now and goes in my pocket every day after work.
