Sebenza 31 open/close "blade play"

Ya'll do some weird things with your knives, which in turn causes me to do weird things with my knives .
Still don't have a clue to what you're talking about C CO_EDC , but here's what I do when cleaning/reassembling a CRK. I put a small amount of grease on both the pivot tube hole and the outer edge of the bushing. I guess that's why I've never felt a difference in the action of any of the CRK's I've got. Mind you, I've got exactly two 31's and one of those is Damascus, the rest are 21's, 25's, Umnumzaan's and Inkosi's.
You may want to try that next time if you haven't already. I know I can't be the only person putting grease in all the joints.
The other thing I thought about, the detent ball rides on the blade through the entire travel of the blade. That's why you see a mark on the blade associated with the detent ball. Have you looked closely at the detent travel to see if it looks the same as far as wear goes. Is there a chance that the detent ball is actually moving during that travel area that you're describing. Maybe it's moving then stops once it's back in place. I don't think the detent ball is supposed to move at all. I believe it's supposed to be stationary. Maybe a loose spot ????

Hahaha, I've thought the EXACT same thing about us knife guys. Like when the Benchmade Bugout first came out and everyone was squeezing the handle together complaining that it "flexes".

It's not the detent ball, I feel this even with the lockbar disengaged. I'll try and take a video but now the movement is so slight you won't be able to see anything. It's most likely just me looking for an issue where there isn't one!

Here's a video of what I'm talking about. I know you can't see it in the video, but this is where I'm feeling "play" or "blade rock".

I guess the reason it is bothering me is I got a Sebenza clone (I know, I know...) to make sure I liked the size of the small Sebenza before buying a real one and it doesn't have this play. The only other 2 knives I have with pivot bushings are a Spyderco PM2 and Para 3 lightweight, neither of which have it either.

^ This. I know you just dropped some good money on a Sebenza, but these two longtime members have it right. It is totally normal, no need to call CRK (of course I am sure they would be more than happy to explain to you); those that have actually owned Sebenzas for some time will tell you it is just fine. However as 353 said it is a commonly asked question, so I am not trying to hack on you at all. The CRK grease when applied (while still fresh) can seem to eliminate the “issue”, but that is likely only to be temporary until it wears in.
The thicker grease can’t really take up that slack. If it appears to I imagine the same amount of play is present but the thick grease dampens the feel. Most of the time my sebenzas are dry or just have some clp on them.

I just checked one of mine. A little bit of "play" when wiggling it like that. I stopped wiggling it like that ;)
As long as it locks up solid and doesn't open "by itself" in your pocket, it should be fine.
