Sebenza aesthetics & other confessions

I think the decorated and wood inlayed Sebs look .. wrong.

The Sebenza's beauty is in the attention to detail in manufacture, not the way it is decorated.
The Sebs that I like are the Micarta inlay, as the modern material suits the design better, or the plain Regular or Classic, preferably with an uncoloured thumbstud and back spacer.

I like the way mine looks...

Me too!

I like Sebs in Plain Jane fashion. No frills, nothing taped/glued on, just plain ol' grey.

There you go. That's the beauty of the Sebenza: it's minimalist. It's the IWC Mark XV of knives. It's a knife that can be appreciated by a true connoisseur, with no fancy curves, exaggerated jimping, or bizarre blade grinds to distract you from the simple design and unimpeachable craftsmanship. Perfectly finished gray titanium slabs, just grippy enough, not too slick. Beautifully polished pins (which should always be switched to the front handle slab). An elegant but functional blade, just thick enough, with a nice sweeping edge and a piercing tip. A razor-sharp hand-ground edge that holds forever, with no shoulder. A simple clip, just the right size, tight enough to hold on but not tear your pocket. A pivot smooth as glass. Virgin-tight lockup, with zero play in any direction.

A lesser knifemaker (and a lesser knife user) would be interested in gimmicks, embellishments, and fads. With the Seb, Chris Reeve struck the perfect balance between utility and simple beauty, and in crafting it built what I consider to be the perfect folding knife. Not the Mnandi, not the Umnum- the Sebenza.

Good luck with staying away Swedgie! Knives have a strong hold on me i've been meaning to give it a rest for awhile :D

I handled a couple of new Sebenzas at the gun show yesterday. I'm sorry folks, but I just don't feel the Sebenza magic. They are smooth and solid, but I don't find them extraordinary. I'm sorry: I have really tried to join the Sebenza crowd but I just can't seem to connect with them.

Both were offered to me at a lower price than I typically see them sell for in the Exchange. I didn't buy either of them. As I was handling them I just kept thinking "These don't feel 3X as good as my old Pinnacle that I paid $100 for."

So I guess here's my "poor man's Sebenza" picture:

I apologize in advance for being a downer in the Sebenza thread.

Here is my small Sebenza Acoustic.
If it looks wrong I don't want to be right!
Go decorated! Yes it gets carried and used like any other knife I have.

Out of curiosity, what's the purpose/reason behind the hole in the butt of the knife (NOT the lanyard hole, but the one that the blade is partly visible through when the knife is closed)?
