Hello-

Have an opportunity to pick up the subject knife, small regular Sebenza B&W Damascus Twist. It is a 1998 model, complete box, birthcard and knife is mint. From what little I can find on the internet to read, it appears to have the Devin Thomas B&W Damascus Twist blade, made of Carbon Steel. Are there any experts out there that can school me on this knife, the blade, what B&W mean, and the price range I should be at for a fair deal?

Apppreciate all responses.

Steve

Do you have any pictures of it? I don't know what a fair price would be, but the knife is not going to be cheap:)

Pics would be more helpful. Going on without them, the carbon Damascus steels are more highly figured than their stainless counterparts. Since they were carbon steel, they could be prone to discoloration, so they were coated. You will see many times the term HC Damascus, which was high carbon or high contrast Damascus. I believe I have info it deeper into my CRK timeline. Will have to check. In my opinion and from what I gathered when doing my own research years ago is that the HC Damascus was more for show rather than heavy EDC use that the stainless would be more suited for. I have several in HC Damascus and have basically admired them. The Gary house mosaic Damascus and the Damascus on my gold coin sebenza are HC. You will notice that HC Damascus is usually darker and more figured, while stainless Damascus is lighter in color. As for the B&W.....it could be as easy as Black & White, could also be Barbed Wire.....CRK has made many sebenzas over the years with different Damascus from different vendors, so pics would be helpful in this case. As for $$..... Tough to tell, but I would not be surprised to see at least a $1k price tag if it's super rare and possibly even higher.

^^^ This, especially the price.

nyfemaker, can I please see a pic of your gold coin Seb?

Well, photobucket is not working right now. I have a 2002 large regular with B&W Damascus which is non-stainless. Fortunately, I have the paperwork, here's what it says:

All blades made with non-stainless Damascus require special attention to maintain the original appearance and prevent corrosion. Some of our Damascus blades are etched with Ferric Acid to produce a black and white effect, others are treated with Salts of Nitre to achieve Bronzed and Blued finish.

Please note that the finish on the Blued or Bronzed blades is cosmetic only. This surface finish fades when it comes in contact with high acid content, items such as apples, oranges, steak, fingers. etc.

As far as price goes, it's all subjective. If you feel the asking price is fair and want the knife bad enough, jump on it.
You can always negotiate some wiggle room. Good luck!!!!

Thank you, nyefmaker, for the good info. I am waiting on pictures. I am told it was never carried. He said it was a plane jane, no scale markings, and he did not know what the B&W meant on the box. He assume it was black & white. Thank you too, Ajack60! Seems he was correct about the B&W. Asking is $700 firm.

Looks like a pretty good deal to me... :) Congratulations in advance! :)

Sounds like a fair price, I paid 600.00 for a small micarta raindrop and 615.00 for the TNK flag spirograph.

Ah, OK. I was assuming it was also a UG, we know what assuming gets up. I think $700 is a good deal for it just because of the collectibility. Please show a pic when you get it.

Lol. got your heart rate racing doesn't it? :D

Requesting as well... :D

Always love to see your very rare pieces Thomas!

Will get you a pic posted asap. Ever since photobucket started selling pics, their site has been garbage and crash city. You can check out the " nyefmaker's grails " thread as that has the same pics.

I know what you mean! I really want to run the thread for the arrival of this box, but can't....
