On the Chris Reeve web site, they list this "accessory" clip insert and screw (G).

I don't seem to have this part on my Large Sebenza. I'm assuming it goes under the clip. My question is what does this part do?

Thanks in advance,
John

Those that felt the clip wasn't needed on the knife, found the remaining unfilled hole unattractive and request to Chris for something to fill the void. He finally conceded and made that small piece you see there. Myself, I figure the hole is out of sight and out of mind when I'm holding my knife so I never bothered to buy that small piece...

Thanks!
I also wondered why it cost $21.00 and the clip only costs $10.50.

Thanks,
John

I like the clip insert because it protects the recess. If I want the clip back on, it will fit back as new. It also protects the threads. CRK is the only company I know of that offers this option.

Gary,
Thanks again. I suppose I should have performed a clip insert search. Sorry to bother you, but which clip is old and which is new. I have both, and the one currently on my knife the longer version with the wave in it.

Thanks in advance (again),

LOVE that pic! I envy you guys on the west coast with all your good weather!

That be the NEW style clip on the one shown.

And it's never a bother, I don't know if the search would go back that far any way, it has a mind of it's own lately, I just happened to remember it and all the Monty Python quotes that came from it...:D

ps
It would appear that St James was typing at the same time as I, so now you must be doubly sure...:)

Hate to rub it in Gary, but it's currently 79° and I'm back and forth from the computer to sipping iced tea in my back yard wearing shorts and a tee-shirt. Here is another pic for ya. BTW, I shoot 35mm and not digital.

Best regards,

I'm gettin all warm and fuzzy thinking about moving out there!
Thanks for the images, nice job on the photos. I'm a camera buff and enjoy taking pictures as well, though lately I've been working too much to even break the camera out...

Ketsugo,
On your last picture, it looks that your anodizing is rubbing off on the tip of your thumbstud. Is that the case?NW

Actually, yes it is.

Is that a covered defect? I would think it's just normal wear. The funny thing is, it's the ONLY wear on the entire knife. The blade looks brand new.

Also looks like you might be getting a touch of the evil rust-monster... unless that brownish color at about 8 o'clock is a reflection...

That's rust alright (visible under a 10X loupe). It came right off with a tooth brush, but I'm sure there is more under the stud. How is the thumb stud installed and removed? And what does that cost? I heated it with a hair drier and shot some Militec-1 in there. Looks fine now, but.... Thanks for any/all advice.

John

The purple-blue-anodized thumbstud is pressure-fitted into the blade, making it non-removable by you without comprimising it's re-fit or finish.

What I'd do is to bathe that area in some good old fashioned WD40, scrub it with your toothbrush, bathe everything again with dishsoap and water for good measure, and re-lube everything including the stud area with your preferred pivot oil. Just my .00347.

Man alive...

Do I have the biggest avatar at BF or what? I have NO IDEA how the heck that happened. Just now noticed that!

Oh yes, Chris Reeve can do just about anything...after all, he is the REAL Superman!;)

Seriously, I think it costs a little over 20 bucks to get your old t-stud removed and I brand spankin' new one installed. I believe you can get your blade re-tumbled while you are at it if you need it. You probably don't since you said it looked brand new though.

Thanks! I e-mailed Chris with a pic showing the rust. I'll keep you posted!

John

Ketsugo...when my ano started rubbing off the thumstud, I went ahead and took some polishing cream and buffed it all off. Now it is high polish silver to match the allen screws. I think it looks pretty good. No pic, but I am sure you can imagine it.

I figure if I want to go back to blue I can always send it off the Reeve. Right now though I am happy with it.
