I'd go for anodizing or an engraving.

Ooh, or what could be really cool would be an engraving and then anodizing that, a la the Bob Dozier Workhorses, with their Ti scale grooves that were anodized. I'm not entirely sure how that is done, but it could look amazing if done right.
