Sebenza fever

I would recommend getting the Regular while you can. There were one or two on the exchange here from well known members, I don't know about their willingness to do international shipping, but great people nonetheless.

I'm also on the bandwagon to say get it while you have the opportunity 'cause you will regret it that you didn't get one sooner.

Good luck, J.

I've got it bad and it's bringing me to my knees! Luckily it's income tax refund time, so that should remedy this nagging bug. I finally got to play with some Sebbies (and Striders and Kirby Lamberts...) at the Canadian Knifemakers Guild Show this weekend. Problem is, would I rather put to rest this deep and intense longing for the holy grail of production folders OR for the same coin get a sweet trio of the Caly, Paramiltary and Military (or Fallkniven A1), all knives I waste almost as much time thinking about?

The fact that the Sebenza I want--the 'Regular'--is out of production and that the only Canadian Sebenza dealer has maybe a few of them left should seal the deal, right? Rational thought dictates that I buy it now, or it's gone forever. But then isn't 3 better than 1?

Thoughts, opinions, please!

RUN! Don't walk, right NOW and buy the Sebbie! You will love it and will not be kicking yourself down the road. I'm sure you would be happy with the others but you will be addicted to the Sebbie.;)

I always thought thatt when it come to use any good enaugh knive will be the best for me. As I buy e new knife, lets say a spydie, I regrind it and start using it hard: then I rearly feel I got it. Would I do that with a sebbie? may be not but so I will never feel I rearly own it.

then perfection is not for you, I suggest you look else where, there are plenty of other manufactures that will offer you an chance to make it yours

let me gently disagree with Your's statement. I have two small collection of knifes, one is made of XVII and XVIII centurie's gents pocket knifes, most french or english some with silver or gold handles, and another is made of tipical, mediterranean area's, hand made shepard's knifes. In both cases some of this kinfes are whay rare, and precious (at least for me) than the sebenza: simply because they are unique. This do not mean I can not appreciate the sebenza fashion. But I like to use the knife I carry, and eventually also abuse, if necessary: I ride bikes (BMW and HD) and treck: I am always doing something with blades (just regrinded a Descy Croc that arrived few time ago). But i would be concerned about abusing a so nice piece (Chris Reeve opera I mean) much more than what I am about mishandling any of the spidye, or benchmade, or leatherman, or other' european blades I carry daily. Hope did make myself understood.

I am afraid my english does not help me explaining myself. I don't consider the sebenza a fragile knife, absolutely. I think at it as the top of art of industrial or semi industrial production. Ad too I can appreciate the excellence. Simply cause I am also a practical man I tend to associate excellence with the real use. I don't simply get what, possession lust apart, a sebenza would give me more than a good spyderco (just to say a name) regarding tasks that are normally performed with a knife. But I know I would be a little more concerned about loosing or breaking it. Thatt's all.

IMO, when it comes to using a knife, NOTHING functions better then the 3 Spydies you have mentioned. When it comes to slicing, ohh boy, those FG's separate matter wonderfully! I will add that my all-time feature fav feature on a folding knife is indeed the hole, I love the hole.

I cant imagine using my $400 crk like I do my spydies, then again I have a crappy job. To each his own.

You conveyed your message very well. I totally agree with you.

I just purchased one from Neil today to arrive tomorrow. he was excellent to deal with over the phone etc.

No fair! I ordered mine from Neil on Monday and won't get it 'til tomorrow (Thursday). But I did the order online. Waiting is a b!t@h. So, Chad, if I'm following the thread timeline correctly, you should have your Sebenza already. Once you snap out of your pleasure coma, would you mind sharing your first impressions? Did I already say waiting is a b!t@h?

BTW, I settled on a large regular.

I got a custom order Large Regular last year, just got a 21 Micarta. I'm addicted to both. Still the best folders overall of any I've ever had.

The Fallkniven PXL is possibly the best kept secret in the folder genre today.
The 3G steel is one of the best, and the craftsmanship on this knife is incredible.
I cannot praise this knife enough. They could charge 50% more for it and it might still be worth it. The only drawback to the PXL is its rather old school design and the weight of the knife itself, It’s not a boat anchor, but it’s not light like a Strider or something..

If you do not buy the Sebenza you will always be haunted at what it could have been.

I agree about the PXL. It is a great piece of cutlery. I want to add the maroon micarta to my ivory one as soon as possible.:D
