Sebenza "Hard Use"? - World of C.R. Knives Only

I've used my small Sebenza for cutting everything from paper to cable ties and heavy packaging along with light prying (staples, etc.) without any impact whatsoever. So far I haven;t had to test it in any heavy prying - I tend to avoid that with any folding knivfe if I can.

Thanks for all the stories and keep 'em coming. I was shying away from buying a Sebbie because I didn't know if it could take the abuse my Emersons have. Now I know that I can buy a Lg Snakewood Seb and not have to baby it.

I am so glad to read all these hard use stories. As a new owner of a Smalll Classic Sebenza I was very curios about the durability of my new knife. The hardest thing I've used mine on so far is the .000001mm thick plastic bag that the morning paper comes in.

There is zero need to baby a Sebenza. If I had to, I wouldn't have spent that much money on it.

I use mine for everything: opening mail, slicing up cardboard boxes, stripping wire, prying staples, yard trimming (when I'm too lazy to go get the clippers), opening CDs and DVDs, cutting rope and twine and string, taking tags off of clothing and toys (the kids are always asking), occaisonally slicing food (when I'm too lazy to go get a fixed blade), removing stray threads from clothing, idle whittling to pass the time, and opening consumer goods that are hermetically sealed in that horrid stiff clear plastic junk that they like to use these days.

Heck, I even recently used the scales on my sebbie to press recalcitrant plastic plugs into the unused shelving holes in our new medicine cabinet.

I also sometimes use my Sebenza to shave bald spots on the back of my arm when I'm, you know, making sure I can shave bald spots on the back of my arm. :D

For around town usage, I need no other knife.

Do not baby your Sebenza!

This is the only reason I buy Sebenzas, you mean you can use them for other stuff too!:D  :p

Ok, now I've got a hard use question. For those of you who have broken the tip off your Sebbie, was CRK willing to re-profile it for you?

There was a similar thread with people posting pics of hard used Sebs...I can't find it....anyone?

Several weeks ago I had to use my large classic to try to defeat a door lock (not a burglar by the way, a real estate appraiser). Very carefully was prying the little pin back and about 1/8 inch of the tip pinged off. It's my beater so just used the edge pro to get the point back in about 5 minutes. Hardly noticeable.

About 2 years ago, I was standing on a 6 ft ladder using my large Sebenza to strip electrical insulation. Dropped it point down onto a tile floor. The tip didn't actually break - kinda mushroomed down about 1mm. I ground it out, but didn't like how it looked. CRK finessed it so that the blade looked about new. No charge except shipping.

That's the only time I have ever damaged a Sebenza and have carried one every day for years.

i used my Sebenza to plow my driveway this winter:

Hard-use enough for ya? :D

Refusing to release the doorframe when everyone else is already skydiving?

LOL. I think I peed myself a little.:D

Holding onto the "jesus" handle when your wife is driving.

Or protecting the remote control so you can watch the 9:00 news.

Trying to shave midflight in an airplane bathroom.

Keeping your wife/girlfriend from stealing the covers on a cold night.

OK. Maybe not ONE thing.

Holding onto the "jesus" handle when your wife is driving.

I always tried to be subtle about it, but eventually she noticed how I kept my feet braced hard against the floor ...

Wow, these are great stories to hear about the Sebenza. I definitely want one now.

One question: I don't know a whole lot about the Sebbies, does CRK make their own S30V? Because at first glance, many of the stories highlighting the toughness of the knife, would seem to lie in the blade strength? And I'm not sure if CRK fashions the Ti handles and formes the blades from ingots/slabs of S30V, or if they have a hand in actually making the steel, etc.... thanks guys. If it really is that much more hard wearing than other S30V knives (have a RSK and mini-RSK) then $300 or more is worth it.

Good questions, but please start a new thread.
