Sebenza in CPM3V

I'm dreaming of acid stonewashed CPM3V blade with gold anodized Ti frame Sebenza25/Zaan. If it were really made, it will sold like mofo.

3V doesn't make much sense in a Sebenza to me. Not stainless, some tendency to microchip at the edge. I'm good with S35VN, just wish it were treated more like Hinderer's S35VN.

3V really shines in larger blades, in a sebenza you wouldn't really reap any of its benefits plus it's not stainless. Now a new lineup of OPK's in 3V would have my attention!

I am not sure about the "it will sold like a mofo" part.

I think 3V has its place, but not on a folding knife offered by CRK...I could be wrong...

3V's place is in fixed blades where it can shine. The sebenza does not need it as there is nothing wrong with what's currently offered.

I'm so used to washing off my CRK's when they get dirty, I'd be afraid to have one in 3V. I've got a couple that hasn't been taken down yet. I can imagine what the hidden areas would look like after it was taken down.
So, no, not interested in one at all.

3v will likely be superior in edge retention to s35vn, and FAR superior in durability. Not sure what micro chipping tendencies some folks are taking about as I had 3v from multiple makers at varying hardnesses.

I will say I've had s35vn rust on every folder I've had it in, a pm2, zt 0630 and more than a few fixed blades like Brian Evans companion.

My 3v blade from big Chris doesn't even have a single stain after many months of kitchen duty and every day carry including swimming.

My 2cents, 3v out performs s35vn in every way with the exception of corrosion resistance (on paper) in real use I find 3v extremely corrosion resistant.

The microchiping remark came from Virtuovice on YouTube after he dressed many deer with different Bark River knives and then examined them with a microscope and showed that 3V had a tendency to microchip just at the edge even though it still felt sharp. It may not be an issue with some heat treatments.

What I like about this idea is the ability for the blade to darken ala carbon steel patina.
TC

Ps. With ruining any Damascus.

3V will shine in any knife. In a folder that doesn't get stressed it's strengths are the wrong emphasis for the niche.

I've watched many virtuvoice vids, I like them. But I definitely wouldn't paint ALL 3v as chippy from one mans experience with one company. Bark river isn't known for getting the most out of heat treat as it is. They produce a lot of knives in a lot of steels so It's understandable that their heat treat won't compare to a handmade knife from big Chris.

From the makers I've used 3v from Daniel Winkler and big Chris 3v is damn excellent. I like it particularly at 60-62 rc.

The s35vn already takes a great beating without chipping out. Happy with that for sure.

There are lots of carbon tool steel like 3V or even 1095/W2 (which rust much more readily than 3V) custom folder that are very sought after and usually sold for over $3,000 like Burchtree, Marsh, Barrett and many others.

I don't think people will really have an issue with CPM3V CRK if they know how to take care of their tool... Tough steel in a folding knife might sound overkill but when people spend $400 for a knife it definitely not about the practicality anymore... we just "want" it and fortunately CPM3V will hold an edge better than S35VN and will look better on acid stonewashed finish than most stainless.

3V blade in an Umzumzaan would be nice.
Use the old pivot, while we're dreaming. :D
No embellishments to the handle though.

I use my Umnumzaan as a woods knife, among other things.
CPM 3V is a tougher, stronger steel, so that's a plus. Plus, I've never experienced any "micro-chipping" on my Spyderco Tuff, and I doubt it would be an issue on a CRK product.

More options is a good thing; I say, bring it on.

3v from BRK is chippy. I had large chips come off when doing simple bushcraft work.

But I've had 3v from a custom maker that was unreal, didn't resemble BRK's at all. Not
a single chip after a few years of use.

I'll take a 3V Sebenza anyday.

I had an El Patron in 3V from Jeremy Robertson and i beat the living hell out of it...on purpose , and all it needed in the end was a sharpen and strop

I know you aren't saying that s35vn is incapable of chipping, but I have had my large 21 chip out like a few other knives of mine did.

Given the choice, I would like to see m4, cru-wear or 52100 for fine edge retention and toughess.

I am with you. 3V has far better edge retention and durability. Why use a steel with less of these two properties for any knife. and corrosion is only a factor if you don't take care of your blade. I carry a knife that I want to stay sharp as long as possible so I can cut stuff, its that simple. 3V will shine no matter what the setting is. If its made to be beat to shit in a fixed blade then imagine how it will hold up in a folder. I carry my El Patrons religiously for that reason. Its kind of like saying the drag strip is only 100 yards long so lets put away that racecar and run it on a bicycle. The car is still faster so I might as well use it. Just my thoughts
