I'm planning on getting a Sebenza at some point, but I didn't know if there were any super cheap knock offs that could somewhat tide me over? I've seen several copy knives that are nearly identical... other than quality in most aspects. Are there some copies that are well know?

:) Thats pretty hilarious man...but I hear the Bradley Alias is quite good:thumbup:

I'm not talking "knock offs" as in other Titanium frame locks. I'm leaning more towards the $30 and under ranger. I've come across some in the past, but haven't been able to find any whilst searching. I was just curious!

Well, it seems everytime someone makes a knife with a framelock that appears through myopic eyes to resemble the classic Sebenza, someone cries out the knife is a copy.

As such,

You could get a Benchmade 750 Pinnacle, one of the Bradley knives, an old CRKT S-1 or S-2, etc.

If your interested in blade shape, the Ritter Grips have blades that look much like the Seb's.

How much are you willing to spend?

Compared to $350+, $150 or so seems pretty cheap to me.

Just go to any street corner in NYC and you'll be able to find your knockoff sebbie and at the same time a knockoff Rolex and a knockoff Dolce & Gabbana purse for your wife/significant other. How could you go wrong?

If you're not joking, I sincerely hope that you don't really mean a Sebenza "knock off," as in a patent infringement on Chris' design!

Hopefully, if you're not making a big joke, you've just worded it very poorly, and really mean that you are looking for a knife that shares similar features with the Sebenza (blade style, all metal handle, frame-lock), but in the $30 price range. If so, I would suggest that you take a look at the Kershaw JYD and the BM Monochrome.

Regards,

imho nothing in the $30 range is gonna be anything even remotely like a seb, except they both might be knives lol.

Ok, it does not look like a Sebenza, but it has an excellent frame lock: the Boker Trance drop point can be bought for pocket money. It has reasonably ok AUS8 steel.
I really think that the Boker Trance is something special. It is actually amazingly well made at the price, and the blade stays solidly in place thanks to the frame lock. It is also very thin and light.
The Boker Trance is one of my cheapest knives, but definitely not one of my least loved! It is actually the kind of knife that makes you wonder: "Why should I pay more? I could live with this and be happy enough."
So, if I summarise: the Trance is perhaps the closest you can get to the sebenza quality feel under $30, even if it looks different. Check it out, I promise you won't be disappointed, it is waaay better than it should be at the price.
Curious about other opinions.

That doesn't even make sense. Why not just save your money?

Go away!:grumpy:

Kind regards,

Perhaps a better question is... what is the most unbelieveable quality knife for under $30? I have two suggestions... agreeing with Dagon, I also have a Boker Trance and it is amazing. Another knife that I really like is the Buck Nobleman (327).

Perhaps you could be change the question and thereby get a useful answer.
Rather than saying "I want a cheap copy of a Sebenza", which BTW does not exist and is sure to induce flaming responses (and rightly so), describe what you are looking for as far as:
price
blade length
blade style
lock
what kinds of cutting jobs you want it to perform.

Are you looking for a perfect copy of the Sebenza so you can "Try the pattern" or are you looking for a frame lock.

For the former- I don't know of any. For the latter, there have been several excellent suggestions.

It was more of a try the pattern questions, rather than a I want to have a super cheap copy of a Sebenza to smite Chris! I've been drooling over several other frame locks in the Sebenza class. I'd just like to handle a Sebenza copy to get a feel for the design. I know it will cheap and no where close... but that's ok!

To get a feel for a knife's design I like to go to a knife store and actually handle the knife until the staff asks me politely to leave and I end up not buying anything. To be honest, I don't think you'll get an idea of what a Sebenza is like unless you actually handle and use one. I get what you're trying to do, and I think it's a good plan in theory, but I don't really think it will work. Higher end framelocks from Benchmade and Kershaw will be close, but they still won't be the same.

Then go to a brick and mortar knife shop and feel the real thing.

Most of what makes a Sebenza a Sebenza is in the superb fit and finish. You won't get a feel for that or for the balance by handling a cheap clone.

add: apparently USSR and I think alike.
