Sebenza Knock-offs

I'm not talking "knock offs" as in other Titanium frame locks. I'm leaning more towards the $30 and under ranger. I've come across some in the past, but haven't been able to find any whilst searching. I was just curious!

rather than buy 11 knock offs at 30.00 each get the real deal

Yeesh! I wasn't wanting flack, just trying to see what was out there.

Do you think then that maybe, just maybe, you could have phrased things (your thread title and your first post) a little better?;)

P.S. Kershaw Junkyard Dog or Benchmade Monochrome!

Yea, no hard feelings here, but they way the original post was worded is going to draw some negative responses from the CRK fans. If you want to know what it's like to own and use a framlock knife, go for a Boker Trance or one of the lower end Kershaws. For the money, they make really great framelock knives. The thing is, you really can't know what a $400 framelock is like unless you drop $400 dollars on a framelock.

It's all in how you word things. Had you said "I love the clean, classic lines of the Sebenza, but can't afford one just yet! What other good frame locks are out for around $30.00 to tide me over until I can save up and get the Sebenza?"

...You probably would've gotten much more positive responses. It's just that when people on this board hear "Copy" "Knockoff" and "Cheap" on this forum, especially combined with "Spyderco" "Sebenza" or "Kershaw," they actually turn green and start screaming "HULK SMAAAAASH!"

Just FYI.

I'd say the Benchmade Monochrome is probably the closest to what I think you're looking for. It's not in the same class as a Sebenza, obviously, but it's a solid knife, and at it's price, an excellent value.

For someone who's not willing or not able to spend the money on a Sebenza, it makes a good "starter Sebenza". ;-)

Another excellent knife in the same pattern that is much closer to a Sebenza in quality is the Bradley Alias and Alias II. Excellent knives, but well beyond the $30 range.

if ya just want a good knife for ~$30 get a spyderco byrd, they are excellent knives for 2X what they sell for, they arent a seb though by any means.

The Buck Mayo Cutback is a nice frame-lock knife at a very reasonable price.

It's not as large or as heavy as a full-sized Seb.... but you get a decent frame-lock for around $15 - $25.

For is it not written "He who buys cheap knockoffs shall be forcibly removed from the forums"?

No?

Well it's written now!;):D

Kind regards,

Naked, I understood exactly what you were asking on your original post. Not everyone can afford a Sebenza. I have a Bradley Alias and like it, but after handling a Sebenza, the Alias is not as nice as the Sebenza. I prefer the handle design of the Alias, but the Sebenza is overall a better knife. Sorry you took flack over a general question.
JDP1988 is providing some very good advice.

You won't find anything that will tell you if you want a Sebenza for $30.Get a Benchmade Mini Skirmish for around $200 and be done with it.That's a fairly comparable knife.

Okay, since a lot of these guys are being unhelpful, I'll chime in.

Your best options for a Sebenza knock-off at around thirty bucks are the Cold Steel Pocket Bushman and the CRKT Drifter. They both have the look of a Sebenza. But none of the quality. But I don't think you'll mind.

Since the Buck is a Mayo design, that might backfire and you might wanna get a custom Mayo instead

What specifically did you find "unhelpful"? The suggestions Naked was given for knives (Buck Hilo, BM Monochrome, Kershaw JYD, Boker CLB series), or the suggestions he was given, regarding how he worded his posts/questions, to avoid sounding like a cheap troll?

The CRKT Drifter, maybe, but the CS Pocket Bushman, similar to a Sebenza? Aside from both having metal handles, blades, and thumb-studs, I fail to see the similarities?

One reasom I try to occasionaly buy a knife from a "real" store is that I would really like them to stay in buisness. Any number of knives that i was really interested in have failed the "handle it once" test. This has saved me hundrerds of dollars.I am willing to pay the extra 15-20% profit to a "real" store for this experience.I would never have bought a Sebenza if I had handled one first ( really didn't like the thumbstud).Unfortunatly - knife stores or even outdoor stores with a reasonable selection of knives are few and far between. Maybe even worse - internet sales competition for brick and mortar outlets are a real threat to their existence.
But it really is a problem in vast areas of the country if you want to actually handle a CRK or Mayo or Onion or Lake or? knife. there are simply zero retail outlets for these products - so it's the internet or nuthin?

Most sites have a return policy. I bought the small regular Sebenza from knifeart and returned it for a full refund 2 days later. I just had to pay shipping/insurance which was about $10. I just didn't like the look of it so I bought the classic instead.

true, it sucks if you have to order allmost every knife

I'm pretty certain there is no shop in my neighbourhood with sebenzas on display, or microtechs or or ...

Try a Vtech 13100 from New Graham. It's not a direct copy - there are differences, but the majority of the look is there. Liner lock, hard anodized grips, and a TiN treated blade make it a great beater, about $45. Fit and finish is better than some Bucks I've owned.

But it's not a Titanium framelock, and for that you must pay the entry fee. Carrying one on a daily basis for the last 18 months - not a Sebenza, but a Ti framelock - there is no substitute for the way the material handles. Fitted with an S30V blade, it cuts "forever," and almost never needs sharpening.

Knives aren't always about the ergos, materials can make a significant difference. Most cheap copies are just that.
