Sebenza Lock strength

Saying it held 400 lbs is meaningless hype. The amount of force doesn't define the strength, you need torque. Any knife could hold 400 lbs on the lock bar without disengaging or breaking if you applied it a 1/32" of the way from the lock.

First, I would like to say that Chris builds an excellent knife. Certainly one of the best, if not THE best production knife in the world.

Lock reliability is more important than lock strength by a large margin. I have never heard of a CRK lock failing. IMO, CRK knives are strong enough to do anything that you would need of a heavy duty use knife.

Secondly, Spyderco's tests are not an industry standard

Spyderco's tests are for Spyderco's own Quality control. We establish how strong we want a knife to be and we test regularly to make sure nothing changes. If a vendor changes a pin material, our tests would indicate a change.

I'm sure each knife company has their own method of testing their products to ensure safety.

Again, Sal Glesser has shown an amazing degree of honesty and candor, for which he is well known on the "Web" and in the industry. I agree with his comments and salute his contributions.
