Sebenza Lock up?

I was wondering if this is about normal for a sebenza carried for about 5 days bought it LNIB.

its a Classic Micarta that went back for Refurb and was fixed April 6 2011.
Well your description is misleading. Thats just an old sebenza that was refurbed 5 months ago. It looks out of spec to me.

Looks fine to me. Unless it has blade play its fine. The lock up on my Umnumzaan is very similar.

Try loosening the blade stop pin and rotating it 180 degrees or so. The blade stop pin is the pin closest to the pivot pin. Sometimes this changes a Sebenzas lockup quite a bit.

I think the spec on the umnumzaan is a bit different due to the ceramic ball on the lock bar.

This is accurate, ive fixed several frame lock knives this way. You shouldn't be too concerned though, ive seen various 10 year old sebenzas with lockup like this that operate just fine.

I had the blade on my small LV inlaid sebenza replaced and it came with a lockup that looks like that. I sent it back in for sharpening or something and asked that they check the lockup. I got a work statement back for the sharpening that said that the lockup was within spec. I'll see if I can get a picture of the lockup on mine later.

*EDIT*

Ok, on the left is my LV inlaid small that was sent to CRK to check on the lockup. They said it was within specs (this was a few months ago but I haven't really used this knife). On the right is my micarta small that hasn't been to CRK but I figured I'd throw it in since the lockup is about the same:

Honestly, it doesn't bug me. I agree with what I read in another post, the more contact with the blade tang the safer. I'm sure that it will stay in this position for years and if it ever becomes a problem I know the great people at CRK will fix it right up :)

It does not matter how much our lock comes across as long as there is no up and down blade play. Our locks do not wear, unless abused, our knives are fitted properly and do not need to wear in as some others need to.And if there is a problem we look after our customers if you do not get satisfaction from my staff you can talk to me.On a small slip angle like we use it only takes about 0.0005" to go 50% to 90%.

Every sebenza I've ever owned never had play and most the lock ups were at 75% + plus.
Most other frame locks need an early lock up because they don't have the tight tolerances and need a lot of room for wear.
How many sebenzas have you heard about that had up and down play or horizontal play? every one needs to understand a late lock up on a sebenza is perfectly fine and normal to have.

Thanks for that explanation.

You should make some sort of sticky about this. People around here obsess WAYYY too much about exactly how far their lock bar goes over. A lot of mis-information floating around in these threads, saying how it should be so-and-so percent over. It's nice to finally have CRK chime in and de-bunk all that. It seems like at least once a week somebody starts a new thread and posts photos asking if their lockbar travel looks alright :::rolls eyes:::

Yes, you have that right. :)

You will know you have a problem if you start to get blade play, especially up and down. Until then dont worry about it, it may never happen. I had one that did, and as Mr Reeve said, they will take care of it

Thank you.

Well, the "so and so" percent came from CRK directly.

I got a phone call from Chris last week and we talked about this. Heather quoted me the 50-75 rule, and Chris said that lockup doesn't matter as long as the lock doesn't fail and there is no play. So, you can't really blame people for wanting to ask if their knife is normal if the lock bar travels to 100% like mine did. (in less than 2 weeks)

Why don't you tell us the resolution of your problem? In the other thread you are cryptic. Is your lockup OK or did you send it in and now have it returned and fixed?
