sebenza lockbar bending

since the sebenzas frame lock doesent have a lockstop, i wonder if its easy to bend the lockbar over making the knife unusable

It's been reported twice since I've been a member here (joined in 1999). Both times were due to the members' intentional overextension to try and reduce lock tension.

Best bet: When in doubt, don't frak with it.

ahh.. ok :D

because i close my sebenza with two hands very careful to make sure that i dont hyperextend it ...

general usage no , purposefully trying, yes

it would be sad to see the Sebenza go the way of the umnumzaan because some geniuses with baby hands feel the need to *modify* it.

the sebenza is no fragile knife, you can USE it and quite agressively. Honestly if you dont "mess" with the knife you will never have issues. Ive been edc'ing my small sebenza for about a year and use it every day. The lock bar has not moved at all and theres no issues with the knife. I actually feel with use the knife functions alot smoother and lock up is stronger. I guess what I'm trying to say is there's no need to baby a sebenza, it can take it :D

Unless you are completely uncoordinated or you don't trust the incredible strength in your thumb, you shouldn't need to worry about closing your Sebenza one-handed. Besides doing it myself, I would assume most, if not everyone here closes their knives with one hand with no worries at all. I think you'd have to press quite hard to change the spring tension.

I worried about it at one point until I realized that the Sebenza lockbar is much stiffer then most RIL style knives. It's not easy to unlock, I don't think I could force the lockbar over with just my thumb on accident, and even on purpose you would have to have an very strong thumb.

Plus one on the posts above. Additional minor point: the clip, although not a Hinderer-type stop, does function to reduce the chances of lockbar over-extension.

Hyperextension of the small and large Sebenza's lockbar has never been an issue either for me personally or on the forum. It can only be achieved on purpose with a lot of force.

I sincerely hope that this thread doesn't give some "experts" any ideas. It would really be a shame if the Seb gets a "moron disc" update like the Umnumzaan. Oh, the horror...

I close the sebenza with one hand, and have gotten used to putting my middle finger on the joint between the lock and the scale so I can feel when the lock bar has been pushed far enough. This is all done with my right hand - with a little practice it became a very natural movement.

There is no way you are gonna bend the Sebenza lock bar with normal usage. You would have to be intentionally trying to do so. I've been using them for years without bending a lock bar!

It would be a tragedy if the Sebenza was dumbed down with an idiot disc because users are bending their locks......

I've never even thought about it my self, IMO it's a total non issue. The very few times I have heard of it as an issue is when the owner of the knife has been needlessly tinkering with it.
