I have been thinking a lot about Sebbies lately. What I have been thinking is that the more I handle custom knives, the more perfect the Sebbie is to me. Not that there is anything wrong with ANY of the customs that I own and carry. I was thinking about the knife that I had in my pocket today ( I LOVE this particular knife too.), that it sticks out too much. I was also thinking that yes I LOVE it, but it isn't "THE" one. Know what I mean? And that got me thinking about my Sebbies. I own and EDC a small Sebbie, usually my Dog Paws. (I have 3; a 21, a Dog Paws {THE favorite}, and a dual thumb stud.) I was thinking how perfect (for me) the clip is in the pocket, how it feels in my hand, everything. It is so perfect for me. I got to missing my small Dog Paws Sebbie, so when I got home, I put it back in my pocket, where it belongs!! The Sebenza REALLY is quite an amazing knife. I HAVE always LOVED my Sebbies, and appreciated them. But, I am now appreciating them even more. Ahhhhhhh, Sebbie..... Anyway, thanks for listening to my ramblings.

I agree completely. There has been a lot of buzz in the air lately about the Umnumzaan. Being a new knife and all of course it would be, but it is an entirely different beast. My small Classic Seb is always at hand and normally the one in my pocket. Of all the "other" knives in my collection/daily rotation, I too find myself always coming back to my favorite...

Does this look familiar?

I know what you mean :D I appreciate my most faithful Sebbie soo much that I'm working on customizing it in a grueling manner :p it's going to be better than ever ;)

I've got the small gold dog paw sebenza and know exactly what you're talking about. I wear Levis and the knife seems to have been designed to fit perfectly in the coin pocket. I can't even feel it in there it's so comfortable. I had intended to buy a pouch for it so I could wear it on my belt but the fit is so good, I'm just going to leave it alone. I used to like to collect knives from all different makers, but now when ever I buy one, I just throw it in a drawer and ignore it. The small Sebenza is the perfect utility knife for me. That said I would like try an Umfaan.

The Umnumzaan IS a fantastic knife!! My only wish is that they would make a small one. I feel that it has taken the Sebenza to the next level. I LOVE mine. I went on the list in 2006 when a new CRK knife was just mentioned, and YES, it was very much worth the wait. So, yes, do yourself a favor and get yourself an Umnumzaan!:thumbup:

This small sebbie has become my default edc. I can relate to how you feel.

Here's my plain small classic (3/30/06). It's not fancy but that's what I like about it. You cannot see the "patina" on the handle (poor photo skills) but this knife gets dropped in my RF pocket most mornings and rides with everything else in there...keys, coins, etc. The blades been touched up countless times but continues to look great because of the tumbled finish. The blue thumb lug is a little worn but I think it shows character. It is the perfect knife!

I totally agree. I had to get a few customs and other high end mid-techs before I truly started to appreciate the Sebenza. There is just some kind of balance and quality to it. It's hard to articulate. It's even harder to swap it out of my pocket for another knife.

Have had a small sebenza since 2002 and always felt the blade was a bit thick for my taste. I carried it once in a while and still do. I finally picked up a large classic micarta and for me the large is the one. Blade is good thickness for that size knife for me. Went ahead and got a minandi a few weeks ago and am really liking it for the office. Wonder what a small flat ground would be like??

I agree in general. There are certainly improvements that can be made to the Sebenza, particularly in the context of personalizing them to the individual user.

I do think the Sebenza is the most elegant basic platform for a folding knife now, though, and it is a very satisfying knife to own - right out of the box.

You might want to consider sending a stock small Sebenza to Krein.

Exactly!

That is why I declined the Umnumzaan when I got the call from CRK. I don't really need any more Large User EDC's. Large Seb is great, small is very pocket friendly but anything bigger means another custom sheath + $50 or so.

I usually have a small seb LE in a jacket pocket daily.

cheers to Sebbies

I would have joined the prevailing setiment had I not handled the XM-24 today. You guys will have to excuse me as I would take the XM-24 over any Sebenza variant right now...

I like several different knives. Last winter I thought about purchasing a few Sebenza's. As fate would have it though, that did not come to pass. Right now I only have the new Umnumzaan. I read where some folks are putting away their Sebbies in favor of the Umnumzaan. As much as I like my new Umnumzaan, and believe me I do like this knife, if I could only have it or a Sebenza, I would chose the Sebenza. The Sebenza of choice is a large wood inlaid model. Had a large snakewood sebbie a year ago but traded/sold it. I plan on getting another one as soon as I can. To me, the Sebenza is a perfectly engineered knife. It is simple to takedown and clean, it is constructed of the finest materials, has the best lockup of any knife I've seen (Kershaw Tyrade is close), and it has the tightest tolerances in the business. I've had custom knives and production knives and I've enjoyed them all. It just seems like there was always one or more things that I thought would really improve those knives. With the Sebenza, I never could think of anything that would make it better than it already is, and to me that is something!:D

Workin' the Sebbie...elementary school project. Cuttin' the Liberty Bell's yoke out of foam.

I used mine today to cut some ceiling tiles to shape. -Oh, and then dinner as well.

What?!? -I steeled and washed it first!!! :foot: :o

I've said similar before, about Sal Glesser and the Military, but it applies here as well: Chris Reeve really did hit it out of the park with the Sebenza design.
