I take mine apart to clean when i feel it is needing it. Wich is after i have been out hunting all weekend it seams to pick up alot of dirt and or if i clean an animal with it. other than that maybe every couple of months and i just use some remoil

I've taken down both my large and small exactly once each since I bought them two years ago. Didn't really feel like it needed it but I picked a cold day in the winter to tear them down, clean, and lube. Did make a difference in smoothness but not anything remarkable. Overall they do seem to stay clean with just a quick rinse and dry every once in a while.
