Well... been carrying a Lg Seb for 7 years, but...I ve found myself without an EDC fixed blade... I'm looking for something with a thin, high grind... I would say that if I had to pick the best fixed blade for me, it would be the Blackwood Henchman... but IF you can find one, it demands a crazy price... no folks, I'm looking for a user. something sub $200, preferrably sub $150. I would LIKE something more tactical, w/ kydex. blade between 3 1/2-5 1/2" G10 or Micarta. LOVE 154cm/ATS34. Here are a few I'm considering, but am looking for THE one.. If I'm tooo opinionated, them please enlighten me!!!! AND THANK YOU!!!

RAT RC-3
RAT RC-4
a few of Barry Dawson offerings
Wilson Tactical Model 9 (if I could pick out the thinnest grind)
Strider WP .125 stock ( had an SA but tooooo thick!)
Miltner Adams MA-2 II

...so far... all things considered, the RAT offerings are in the lead for me.

forget about the steel... just realized I really like D2 and A2 also.. I'm prepared to be enlightened!

It was as if one of those digital safe-cracking machines had finally settled on the right numbers.

The numbers are still whirling for me in regard to a fixed blade, but over the years I've been enamored with the CRK one-piece range, specifically the Mountaineer II, as well as the Randall #1, #14, and #18, and most recently the Tops Tracker 2.

Now that Randalls have gone through the roof in cost and resale value (a good thing, don't get me wrong), I'm steered toward handmade fixed blades with a utilitarian flair that won't break the bank if lost or broken.

Most recent infatuation: Though considered production, I really like the Finnish offerings, such as the Kellam puukko's. The history behind these knives is intriguing as well.

I've yet to find that perfect fixed blade, in the same sense that to me, the Small Seb is the perfect folder and edc piece.

Professor.

I'm with you on a thinner grind and edge. I re-ground my Tracker 2 to what I consider a useable degree, and have been quite happy with what a lot of people consider a "silly" or "over-rated" knife. It does everything I ask of it, and also has some sentimental value in that I bought it while at Tracker School last year.

Professor.

Thanks prof... always well thought out. I know what you mean.. the seb is just perfect. I surely dont NEED anything else.. which is why I recently sold ALL of my other (single bladed) knives:

sm seb
Green Beret 5.5
Shadow III
BM Gravitator
BM Nimravus cub

..and those are just the most recent.. I'm looking for "practical tactical" other than the seb.. these other knives are just not really that practical.

I have a Spyderco Bill Moran Drop Point and a "much larger" Fehrman first strike. Both have held up well.

The Spyderco is sub $100

I have several.

CR Ubejane
Swamprat camp tramp
SOG seal pup
Custom hunter (maker still unknown to me)

Busse AD's/GW's/, Rat warden/bandicoot, Dozier wittler/toothpick/KM-3, Rat-3, , Krein warncliffe, A small drop point I made, Becker Necker, Spyderco Moran, BRKT Mini Canadian, Boker Subcom FB, CRKT Kasper Dragon/another I dont remember the name of, CS Spike(3 differnt sizes)/others, Larry Nowiki Kerambit, etc etc,

I have lots more that I edc, this is probably half the list. Many of them I have on a Merc Harness that swings under my arm if the sheath allows like the Nowiki Kerambit or the CS stuff. I find having a fixed blade usefull but I usually carry them after work with a Jacket on. Most of the ones I carry edc are under 4 inches as I dont see a reason to carry much bigger unless I am going into the woods.

Favorites to carry of that bunch: Busse AD, Dozier Wittler, Krein Warncliffe, Nowiki Kerambit.

OH I WANT a fire ant TKC just havent gotten around to ordering one.

As far as carrying it on me, I almost always have a neck knife on me with my small Seb (Spyderco SPOT, Emerson La Griffe, or a HAK). When I carry another FB, it's a relatively small one. Used to be a RAT3, but nowadays, it's an Entrek Badger. About the same size as a RAT3, but with a larger handle for my hands. 7 3/4" OAL, 3 1/4" 440C blade & micarta scales. Comes with a nice & thin kydex sheath with a built-in belt loop.

I just got a CR Shadow III on a trade. I've been carrying that. Otherwise it's a small Seb everywhere and a large when off work.

And as soon as the sheath arrives for my Game Warden, THAT will be the fixed blade I carry.

woah! some GREAT knives here! I went and looked at some of the Charles May offerings, and WOAH> they are nice! I think Charles and I are linked in the brain somehow... maybe the first knifemaker, that I have trouble picking my favorite... there's like five that are just perfect... His grinds are IDEAL, and I imagine he has some kydex lying around... but I'd still like to get the price down a little... and ideally I'll buy used since I plan to put it through EDC paces.. now.. off to look at more of the above posted knives! THANKS FOLKS!!!

Benchmade Nimravus. You should be able to find one with G-10 scales.

I have a Nimravus, however since it is a fixed blade I seldom carry it. I think
the Nimravus would fit your needs.

Leu Custom made me an A-2 kozuka for $150. That knife is my sharpest FB. Mine is a chisel grind but he can do the V grind also. Have fun.

SOG Eod Powerlock in black dress and a CRK Aviator, but sooner or later I'm going to have to upgrade to a bowie of some sort.

hey archieblue.

you mentioned you had a strider SA. great knife! i've been carrying it for quite some time now, and i currently am in the market for a large sebenza (i just purchased one this afternoon, so it should be here by monday).

but you mentioned it is too thick.

have you considered a strider SA-L? it's a tad bit longer, and thinner stock! not micarta scales though, you'd have to get custom ones made for you.

that, or how about a CRK mountaineer, or shadow to compliment your sebbie? A2 steel, and very classy.

i have a strider SA-L and a CRK shadow (single guard). both are great carry options to compliment your seb.

you're in austin--not too far from me. maybe i can show you them some time. because as a soon-to-be new sebbie owner, i'd like to see what a 7 year old sebbie looks like. ;)
