Sebenza question

I set out to buy a large Sebenza a while back. Found one locally (marked 1 of 400) for $345.

I really didn't care for it. I didn't feel the locking bar went over far enough, although I guess it was solid since it was a HUGE pain to push out of the way to close the knife. Needless to say, I declined.

I found a Pinnicle locally which I liked MUCH better. That they wanted $150 was kind of a bonus, but I couldn't quite bring myself to spend the extra $50 + tax though, when I can get it online for $98 (+shipping) or so.

I'll pay a little more to support the specialty & mall stores, but that seemed a bit much.

I'd have paid the $345 if the Sebenza were even a little bit better, but I actually like the Pinnacle more.

The Pinicle may be fine if you are right handed, but as a southpaw I have no choice except a left hand version. The axis lock is pretty good but I don't care for Benchmades quality.

Bottom line: If it works well for you, it's worth having.

I have a small and large Sebenza. The handling on the large is great, but it's too large for my pocket, so I end up using the small 95% of the time (and wishing I'd carried my large that day...). The other day I whipped a huge cardboard box in half to fit in the car: no scratches, no wear on anything, and the edge was hardly affected at all.

I've looked at the 750, a very nice knife for the price. If you're just looking for a user, and not a philosophy, the 750 should do you just fine. Kind of like the difference between a Brunton Transit and a plain lensatic compass: They'll both get you home, though one will do it for $250 less.

The price argument will always rage on, with no resolution. Remember, both knives resell well, so it's hardly a final decision.
