My apologies if this has been posted before.
Just wondering what your thoughts are on this test.
I don't want to start a shit storm, just truly interested in your opinions.

Interesting. I thought I was going to finally going to get my grail(Sebenza) soon, but now I'm thinking I may hold off

Did he really say the blade was heating up after cutting the rope? Has anyone else ever experienced this?

If I was a rope cutter, I’d probably choose a different knife. I’d prefer a fixed blade over a folder for cutting rope, if I were a rope cutter. But, for the things I do with a knife, a CRK works just fine.
I don’t put much value in YouTube videos that doesn’t compare to real world use.

Those cheap ass cutting boards are filled with all sorts of resins that are hell on blade edges. Plus he’s driving that belly in there pretty good it looks like, right where he says it’s rolled over.

Murray Carter MS has a video explaining this and he even shows a similar result of how fast those boards dull and ruin edges.

Well I think the infographic pretty much clears that up..., now to keep my eyes on the exchange for a lefty 21!!

Absolutely. He's really testing the ability of that edge to hold up against a hard surface. The rope cutting is insignificant in comparison.

Honest opinion for me is I’m not really a rope cutter as Ajack60 Ajack60 stated. I’m not even a phone book paper cutter and I really don’t open many envelopes. For my daily uses CRKs steel works fine. I don’t need razor sharp and I don’t sharpen that often. I go until it doesn’t do what I need it to do then I sharpen. I do cut a lot of jetline.
Been carrying this natural Inkosi for a week or so now. I think the last time I sharpened two or three inkosi’s was in the end of October. I’ve rotated but haven’t sharpened any knife since then

get the Sebenza you will not be sorry' just strop now and then and your good to go:thumbsup:

Came to post this. The cutting test as shown is not conducive to getting meaningful results because he took a univariate experiment and added uncontrolled factors. It's also odd that he doesn't know or understand the grain of paper with respect to testing the edge. The knife definitely doesn't cut the paper one way but then whoops it's fine cutting the opposite grain. I don't think this is a very meaningful video.

The guy in the vid has a really bad/interesting story.

He confronted CR at a shot show(or something similar) with the bad edge holding and Chris himself laid hands on him. It was a mess, some even said it was the beginning of CR moving out of CRK.

Later on he made some custom knives, took preorders and left customers hanging dry. Took of with the money.

Last I heard(years ago) he was switching hobbies over to RC copters.

Not saying that his testing is off, the knife failed, but he's a pretty shady guy IMO.

Yea, he has a questionable reputation at best.

I've come to the conclusion that "testing" a knife really comes down to owning it, carrying it, and using it. You'll know if it works for you or not.

In addition to the comments so far, that test was done before CRK bumped the hardness up.

And since no one seems to complain about Spyderco's heat treatment -

Great video.
I like his style.
I gotta admit his results were surprising, but I'm happy they turned out that way.
Thanks for posting.
