Sebenza stop pin anti-lint grooves? Please explain the science?

I have read those two grooves on the stop pin are Chris's design to stop the stop pin from collecting pocket lint. I am a huge fan of the engineering behind CRK Sebenza's, but after thinking about those grooves I still cannot figure out how they would make less pocket lint cling to the stop pin.

Can someone please explain the theory, even if that's all it is?

I swear I didn't dream up this nugget. I recall I read those grooves were an added 'feature' at some point. I am struggling to find exactly were I read this, but it stuck in my mind and I've been mulling it over for a while. Maybe I'm being taken for a ride?? :(

I could buy the perforated washers (even if they might be more marketing then real), but I don't think I can believe these lint-preventing grooves.

I'm trying to figure out what your talking about. I'm looking at my Sebenza's and don't see grooves on the stop pins. Are they only on the newer ones? Can I see a pic of what your talking about?

CRK does say this about the washers on the 25, maybe this is what you saw? Larger perforations in the washers reduce friction, store more lubricant and offer space for small dirt
particles to move away from the blade/washer interface, helping to prevent blade action from becoming “sticky”.

No I am speaking about the two concentric rings/grooves machined into the stop pin (that the blade hits) on a sebenza 21. The first generation 25's have these rings, and apparently the new ones don't. The old CRK knives did not have these grooves, and when they were introduced they were a new "feature" I believe of the 21 or classic....I'm not sure. Hopefully I am not the only one who recalls reading this. I just can't find where. It makes no sense to me, and maybe this is red herring, but I am confident that someone other than me came up with this absurd idea, or fact.

Here is a photo of the grooves on a 25 posted by forum member Steel_Addiction in this thread (hope you do not mind the re-post Steel_Addiction...thank you) http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...All-End-All-Knife-aka-quot-The-One-quot/page2.

I've never seen those, my sebbies don't have them. They look like they attract lint and pull said lint away from the surface of the pin in order to ensure proper lock up. I'm not allowed to use the appropriate smiley that should follow my last statement in this post.

I have never heard or read CRK say the grooves were for keeping foreign objects out of the contacts point. I'm not sure I buy that idea either, TBH. Looking at the pin the grooves do "present" the contact points of the blade tang and stop pin nicely and cleanly so perhaps it has more to do with aesthestics. :)

Yes I know what you mean by the groves on the stop pin but I can't say I can add anything to the conversation other than I found this thread, goes down that road a little bit.

Thanks for that link. After looking at it, it looks like the thumb stub from an umnumzaan.

I also recall hearing that the grooves are a place for lint and particles to go. I just looked at my knife, and the grooves do have lint and particles in them, but I don't think that the lint is there Instead of at the contact point, I think that lint just gets stuck there.

Interesting. I thought the same thing as Haze that it was just a nice presentation. I've noticed it ever since my first 21 but having only owned 21's I thought all Sebenza's had this :o

I have 2 newer 25's and neither of mine have a stop pin like the one pictured but my StarBenza does?

don't recall the thread but I do remember the anti lint concept coming up in here, because I have spent a few lost moments staring at them and contemplating it. Perhaps it was just thread chat and not actual CRK info.

I've read what the OP has mentioned many times , and I would love to know this too. I never understood how two grooves could eliminate pocket lint?

Thank you.....the mystery deepens.......KMJ153 also recalls reading this according to his post, so at least I know I'm not imagining things.

It was around the time when CRK added "IDAHO MADE" and/or when the Umnum was getting changes with over travel prevention and pivot. I believe it was within an official response by CRK, in addition to the proper way to close an Umnum. Something within a response like "we continue to make improvements to our designs..."

Let me see if I can find it.

Well there goes 45 minutes of my life. I didn't find it, but I feel like it was posted by a female employee of CRK (but definitely from CRK).
