Sebenza vs. Benchmade

Here's another vote for getting a Sebenza :)

However, as you say you're on a limited budget why not try buying a previously owned/used Sebenza? That way you get the experience with less pain in the wallet LOL.

They are advertised regularly for sale here &there's one on sale on another forum for $215. (is it OK to say that? If not please edit my post moderators).

I'd also like to echo what Jeremy Reynolds posted about getting a Mike Obenauf Framelock. Obenauf makes a mini-framelock which is about the same blade length as a small Sebenza for WAY below the price of a new Sebbie. They look like a Sebenza's voluptuous sister & I'm looking forward to meeting her soon ;)

Also worth a try is the Spyderco Ti Salsa. About $90-100 bucks should do it.

Good luck.

The Benchmade is more of a user's knife: after an honorable period of hard use, you toss it and get a new one.

The Sebenza is more like an heirloom, like an Omega or Rolex watch, which you'd use, recondition periodically, and pass on to your son.

knife11, based on your comments and avatar, I'd say you were a Benchmade man? Am I right here?

Just some friendly advice, it doesn't pay to lock yourself into one knife brand. There are so many good knives, makers, companies, etc. out there that to become single focused is to cut ones self off from a lot of good steel!

It's OK to like Benchmade's, I've had some, still got one. I've had Spyderco's also. Traded for a CRKT M-16, bought a few Gerbers, and some customs. My advice is to keep an open mind, and don't get too upset if everyone doesn't praise you for your opinion, because that's just what we have, opinions (based on our experiences). Trick is to get some more "experiences".

For what it's worth, (Sounds like Buffalo Springfield)
