Sebenza vs BM 710

Completely agree. . .They are still amazing performers with reliability. Last time I went to the farm, I had my Adams, incase I wanted to batton some wood for making fires ect, and I didn't mind making it look messy... and then I had my umnumzaan for everything else, preparing all the foods, cutting up chickens, sharpering sticks, cutting leaves as you walk past it to see it its sharp enough to get a solid straight cut, and just general things . So its not like I just keep it as my pretty (that's what my ti-lock is for), I use as my edc too. . . I'm actually trying to get some wear on it to give it some character. Maybe I should go stab some sand like the you tube guys do :)

So its just awesome to have a knife that can perform like a race car, but then also have something special under the bonnet.

For some reason the 710 hasn't worked for me...don't know why. Just doesn't look right.. but I know it's the business to everyone else, so I'll just keep quiet.

Having owned and used both for 10 yrs, would not think about getting rid of either.
On the other hand, I only have the one LG Seb in BG 42 and dozen 710's in various steels.
Just cant get into collecting Seb's. They are pretty much all the same in my mind. LOL LOL
Great knives though! Everyone interested in knives owes it to themselves to use one for a while.

I've owned 7 or 8 Sebenzas over the years and ended up selling all of them. I'll go with the standard BM710 D2 any day.

Lennyo3034 I enjoyed reading your comments. Thank you for an honest comparison between those two knives.

I wish Benchmade would offer a Titanium handled 710 like they do on the 940/943. They could lose the recurve as far as I am concerned. The combination of an AXIS lock and an M390 blade make me prefer the 710 over the Sebenza.

I noticed you mention getting backspacers from Benchmade but I was told they won't sell parts. How'd you get them to sell you parts?

I sent another knife in to them for service and asked for the spacers in my service form. You can also send the 710 in and they'd do it for you.

I finally got around to taking the edge pro to the 710 and WOW. I've never gotten a knife that sharp before. At a 38ish degree inclusive angle, it was whittling hair easy. I feel like 38 degrees is perfectly fine for M390 so I did not add a secondary bevel. Time will tell how long the edge lasts.

I've also gotten more acclimated to the Sebenza and flicking it open. Much easier now than when I first got it. With my axis locks, I usually flick my thumb outwards from the knife. With the Sebenza, I have to flick it upwards to get it to open quickly without use of the wrist.

I look at it this way , I can get like 3 710 for the price of 1 senbenza , is a senbenza really tatty at wort it , it depends on who you ask but , to me it's not , don't care if it's made out of better materials g10 and d2 is fine for what I need so 710 for the win

I prefer the axis lock over liner locks and frame locks.
Mine all work flawlessly.
I would do a lot to make sure that it stays with me.
I would rather buy the $150 knife and then personalize it and make it a classy piece.
It doesn't take much.
New scales, standoffs and polish the liners and you are there.
Not to mention the variety of steels available M2, M4, D2 and M390.
Well, I guess I just did mention them, didn't I.

My 710 is a nice knife in D2. I'm certain, that if I could afford it, I would prefer it in M390. However, it sits in its box, in a larger cardboard box, and I will probably never carry it. I'm a CRK fanatic, or perhaps a Spydie fanboy, and I know that the blade/handle ratio is excellent in the 710...but it takes more than that.
It's nice to be able to have choices.

Great review!

I've got a 710 in M390 with a Contego deep carry clip and I'll take it over a Sebenza any day.

Better blade steel, better lock, and I prefer the blade shape and the textured G10 feels better to me in the hand than the slick scales of the Sebenza.

Even for the same price, I'd take the 710, but for a fraction of the price, it's not even close.

I continue to give the Seb a chance. I've carried it and used it numerous times. But my 710 is just a more appealing knife to me. I'm gonna sell my Seb as I just don't have any love for it. But I am OBSESSED with my 710.

710 for me !
