Sebenza vs Bradley Alias

I’ve always gotten the impression that the prohibition against “flicking” was directed more towards the wrist flick, and not necessarily thumb pressure only.

Have you been able to 'thumb flick' open your Sebbie/s, cause I haven't been able to do so with mine? Mine, a large, plain Jane, Classic, always requires some wrist action to truly 'flick' open.

How's that possible when, at least four times a week, people here start a thread asking if a Sebenza is worth the price?:p

Obvious - because they haven't bought one yet to see for themselves and want some hand-holding before they commit. If you've never coughed up more than $40 for a knife going 10x that can be daunting, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I've asked for a bit of hand-holding for some of my knife purchases - haven't been disappointed yet.

Am I glad I got mine? - Yes. Do I think they were worth the money? - Yes. Will everyone give the same answer? - No. Different people like different things - the world would be a pretty boring place if we were all exactly alike

It wasn't designed to be flicked .... it's a grown-up's knife :)
But, yes, once broken in and properly lubed, it'll "flick"

i know that i want the sebenza and...

like a stated before i am never satisfied with anything but the best.
You've made your choice. Until you get the Sebenza and really use it everything else is going to be second best.

i dont want to have buyers remorse
I don't know about the "Bradly" but you can give the Sebenza hard use and still resell it in a matter of minutes within a few dollars of the original price.

enough said, thats what i wanted to hear, i think ill just buy the thing and if its not what im looking for ill just sell it to one of you guys. anyone that may be interested in a large plain sebenza for 2$ less than full price?

If it's a Regular, you'll probably be able to mark it up... definitely, if you sit on it for a while.

No you can't, most Sebenza sales i see are 50-100 off the MSRP, and it takes quite a while to sell at least on the sales section here.

My large, plain Jane, regular doesn’t need a bit of wrist motion. The knife is well broken in and well lubed. I don’t do it often though cause the knife is so smooth its almost pleasurable to open it slowly (ya I’m a little weird).

By saying you want the best, I think you should go with the seb. However, I was kind of in the same boat as you and started smaller and worked my way up. I enjoy collecting knives and using and buying lower cost knives wa a lot of fun. It also made me appreciate the seby even more.

The way I see it knives are like any hobby. Unless you have a lot of experience, it can be difficult to see the subtle differences between the cost grades in products.

You see a very similar trend in cars, bikes etc. If your a noob you just don't pick up the beauty of the higher cost product (high cost doesnt always mean good too). However, if you do buy the high cost and for some reason find yourself downgrading, i think you will not like the lower cost product nearly as much. This can ruin collecting which may be a bad or good thing depending on your check book:)

In any case, I love my seby. It is my favorite knife. I also love my other knives too, but for different reasons beyond just fit and finish. To me a knife is more than just its fit and finish, its a feel thing. Some knives have it, others don't. I have this feeling with spyderco, Busse, BRKT and Benchmade.

That was my impression too. I'm not even sure how flicking with your wrist is going to damage that knife. The stop pin is 303 stainless - tough stuff - and it's impeccably fitted, so there's not much room for damage or deformation.

My Large Classic opens with thumb pressure alone. However every time a friend asks to see it, the dummy can't help but snap their wrist as hard as they can to open it, even after I say 'don't flick it.' Needless to say, there's no apparent damage yet.

Between CRK and Bradley, I think the Seb is the better choice, but wish no ill towards the Alias. People on this thread all seem to be inkling in the same direction; the Sebenza won't always be better than the Alias, but the Alias will always be an imitation of the Sebenza.

CRK FTW.

Let us know how you like it.
Be sure to use it!

I've had both.I sold the Alias when I got the Seb.To me they're not even on the same playing field. So,YES the Seb is worth twice the cost of the Alias IMHO.

Good post, the alias is no where near the sebb, how bout the bm pinnacle it was brought out to be a sebb knock off,i have 3 750's they are not even close, why do you think CRC wins knife of the year almost every time.......

I've owned the Alias II in the past, and now own a small Sebenza 21.

I think this is probably the best way to put it.
If you don't think spending the money on a sebenza is utter lunacy...you'd be happier with the sebenza.

right on i hear that, the way i see it how could paying 400 bucks for something that will be in my pocket and serve me well for the rest of my life be utter lunacy. i pay 100 bucks for shoes that are garbage in a year, 100 for sunglasses 5 years tops, 150 a month to destroy my lungs with cigars, and so on and so on lol right now the only thing that has me thinkin is that it would seem the bradley can be opened way faster (this is my main source of self defense) and if i opt for the bradley i can get a bark river at the same time without my wife using it to slit my throat lol 600 on knives aint gonna fly

The Alias isn't faster than the Seb; a few people have handled both and made that conclusion, but it's not a given or anything. I find the Seb faster.

Another thing is the knife is only as fast as it can be if you can get it out of your pocket. The clip on a sebenza is way better. Not even a race there. The stock clips on the Alias are strong and good but need to be bent out to be as easy to get out of the pocket as a Seb. That right there also makes it easier to fall out. The CRK clips are the best in the bussiness. No need to bend or play with them they are just perfect right out of the box.

i dont use the clip i just put it in my pocket, you guys think the sebenza could double as an edc and my main hunting knife until i can secretly get the bark river?
