Iam looking for the best folder that I can find and thought that the best two would definetly be the sebeza and the buck 110.
Could anyone please tell me wich is of better quality? thanks, Jeff just jokin.

Depends on how you define "better quality." I have both and they are my two favorites.

And while I am on the subject, I can tell you that the two companies in question have about the best CS of any company in any industry.

It's probably no small coincidence either that Chris Reeve and Chuck Buck are both salt-of-the-earth gentleman and overall good people.

I though you were serious. Both, knives give good value. The Buck 110 probably gets used harder by more people than any other knife. The Reeves knife is a favorite of advanced knife collectors.

Although I really love the Sebenza, I think a case could be made that the Buck 110 is a better value. Afterall, there are tons of 110 out there that have been used for 20 or 30 years. The Sebenza will surely last that long but it hasn't dome it yet. Furthermore, the 110 will always be a superior hard use knife because a 110 owner will feel more comfortable using it hard because the cost of replacing it is so much lower. I can't speak for others, but I know that I could never abuse a $350 knife like I could a $35 one.

Having broken three Buck 110's in my lifetime, I would have to go the other way. They are decent knives, but I have proven to myself that they can only take so much.

If you're hard enough on knives that you're breaking them then go with something indestructible. Call up Jerry Busse and get on him about the Busse folder that's supposedly in the works.

Seriously, if you have broken three Bucks then get something more heavy duty for your cutting chores. I personally would never put my Sebenza through that kind of abuse unless it was a life and death situation. Then I would not hesitate and I bet the Sebenza would survive.

I did. It is the other knife named in the topic.

Wow even though this topic was knid of a joke I can't believe I didn't get pounded for it anyway by the "sebenzaists". Thats cool.

Hey guys btw: what do you guys think a person could get for factory fresh project ones on the exchange? 290.00 shipped? I was thinking of maybe unloading a few. Thanks

btw they are not for sale yet and please don't use my profile e-mail. I'll never get it. If you want to email sevenedges@hotmail.com will do it. Thanks Jeff

I'd like to see a Sebenza with a brass handle that weighs ten pounds. Then we'd have the best of both.

While I've not broken a 110...yet...the 110 takes a lot of punishment!
I was working as an electrican and was showing off to one of the guys how good the 110 was, just got out of the Navy and we prided ourselves on how sharp we kept our knives, and we'd hold quick draw and cut demos on board all the time. Anyway we had a bundle of rigid conduit that had a steel banding around it, so I just stuck in the old 110 and pried up against the conduit with the back of the blade and forced the edge through the steel banding, well, it did cut through but the force needed made the locking bar on the back deform, but hey, it went through! Now I don't think I'd do that with my Sebenza but a 110, what do you have to lose!
So I guess we put our more inexpensive knife brothers through nasty cutting chores more often. Not sure what ever happened with that knife? Still locked open but sure wiggled like crazy...

I don't think the comparison is laughable even if cost is disregarded. The 110 is a remarkable workhorse, as is the Sebenza, and is argueably more attractive. I sent my 30 yr. old 110 to Buck for refurbishing, and it came back better than new (still had "character"). The cost was $7, including S&H. Sure, the Sebenza is a one-hand opener, has a great lock, and is presently in vogue. But is it a better knife? Perhaps, but not laughingly so.

If I needed a stout locking single-bladed knife that I could count on when the chips were down and someone GAVE me a Sebenza, I'd sell it, buy a Buck 110 and then use the remaining money to go on a trip. I know the Sebenza is a fine knife. But there IS a limit to how much knife one needs. I have nothing against you Sebenzanistas, but a $300+ pocketknife is NOT for me.

(With that said, if you DO want to give me a Sebenza, feel free!)

what mnblade said. I don't know if I would buy the 110, but a $300 pocketknife is not my speed either.

On the comparison, economically speaking if the CR is 10x the price of the Buck, is it because:

- it will last 10x longer?
- it is 10x better steel?
- 10x better lock?
- 10x sharper?
- 10x prettier?
... or when you come right down to it, is it simply 10x more expensive just... "because" ?

IMHO, YES!

Actually I think it's going back to the "do you want a Chevy or a Porche?

Hmm, Chevy or a Porsche? Well, for one thing, the Porsche will comfortably do 160+ mph and the Chevy likely will rattle your fillings out at 100. So, IMHO, that's not really a fair comparison. I don't think the Sebenza outperforms the Buck 110 like the Porsche does the Chevy. But I do see your point. ;-)

Thank you mnblade

but I'm not the originator of the comparison.

I'm glad you understand.

If you have the money and appreciate the quality; buy it.
