Sebenza with BG42 Steel.

Hi there fellow Sebenza heads, I recently purchased a Large Regular Seb with Bg-42 with the intention of having the blade retumbled by CRK. I was surprised to find out that BG-42 is so brittle that CRK will not guarantee that they can remove the thumb stud without the blade cracking which they told me often happens with BG-42. I was shocked. Keep this in mind when purchasing

That actually comes up relatively frequently here, and I have had that conversation with CRK a couple of times. It is possible, but they've never used the word "often" when describing the risk.

My 1999 Annual just returned from CRK spa service and the blade was refinished without an issue. It was just part of the service, without any special warning about blade cracking. I have used this knife everyday since 1999 and it has never suffered a chip or given any indication that it was brittle. It certainly wasn't babied, that is why I felt she deserved a trip to the spa after a dozen years.

I'm So Happy to hear that, Thanks

The thumb stud will come out OK, it's putting it back in that can cause problems as far as I know.

I've sent a few BG-42's in as well with no problems. I think it would be as Haze stated though.

I have 2 BG-42 sebbies I have always thought about sending in for double studs, definitely will not at even the slightest chance is not worth the risk.

I guess its best sending in an S30V one as there is less of a chance of this. Having one cracked would drive me nuts.

Same here, last year. I admit I held my breath just a little >||< bit, but all was well.
