sebenza

Christmas saw Santa find me a great price on a new left-over Buck 172 Mayo TNT, a 3+ inch S30V blade in a Ti framelock. I've seen Sebbies - this thing is as close as I'll likely get to a large Sebbie. Still, my #347 Vantage Pro, similar blade, was just over a third of it's cost - which was less than half of a small Sebbie's cost. I seldom carry the Mayo TNT, while the Vantage Pro was an EDC for some time. A large Sebbie would be in display case! A WH would be in a hermetically sealed display case!

I spent enough on my three new knives below in the last two plus months to have bought a computer graphic large Sebbie - or a nice WH.

I have some mighty nice knives - I really don't feel worthy of the ones displayed here. I feel blessed to have them - I am not physically wealthy. They are my choice - and certainly more useful - to me - than the high dollar stuff - but that's me - YMMV!

WH's are beautys - Sebbies are classics - just not for me.

...so, are you saying that one cannot make a decision concerning personal prefference based on known materials used, shape, style, and overall visual appeal?

Personally, I can tell you that I too would "prefer" a WH knife over any Sebenza I've ever seen based on that criteria. :)

...not that I have anything against a seb, they're just not my style. Though I can certainly appreciate their quality.

I wanted to see his WHs. Whats the big deal?

Hi Adam K -

At a certain level, picking a knife is like picking a flavor of ice cream.

If the maker is using quality ingredients, and taking care to deliver a quality product, then it becomes up to the consumer to decide which flavor is the right one for them.

In the case of CRK knives, from all I have seen and all of the good people that I have seen that truly think that CRK knives are the cats-meow, I would think one would not be doing wrong by liking that flavor.

I am of the camp that believes you should taste them all; only then will you truly know which flavor is the right one for you.

best regards -

Strawberry is the schizzle. Anyone who don't like it is teh stoopid.

different strokes for different folks. If you like a hinderer more than a seb by all means go ahead:). WHs are neat knives too, and if you like em stick with em. Just use what you like and enjoy em. Thats all that matters :)

I love my seb, it works for me, and that is that

Eh, Sebenzas don't do anything for me. So not 'everyone' thinks they're the best thing out there.

I would love to own a Sebenza, but I think it´s faaaaaaaaaar to expensive for what you´ll get. A nice and sturdy folder wouldn´t cost more than $100-150. You´ll pay the extra $250 for the dream of the perfect folder. And even the Sebenza will get dull and chipped after hard use, like every folders out there!

It seems that almost everyone views the chris reeve sebenza as the king of folding knives, but why? For a few more bucks you could a hinderer, and i prefer william henrys. What makes the sebenza so great?

Go ahead, go buy a Hinderer right now! GO to the store and find one and then buy it! I dare you, double dog dare you!

Word ... +1 on "teh stoopid" [sic], my nizzle.

I have multiple Sebbies and multiple WH's, I carry and use them all (use the WH's gently). They are indeed apples and oranges...

The Sebbie is a precision semi-custom/high end production folder that is quite stout and indeed a go-to carry knife.

The WH's are very well made, must less "stout", and are designed to be, semi coincidentally, semi-custom more dress-oriented knives that are light and carry well in leather pouches in your pocket. So does the small Sebbie and the Umfaan. The large Sebbie and Umnumzaan are a bit heavy for pouch or in-pocket carry, I prefer both to be clipped to pocket. Sebbie's are landmark frame locks, and you oughta own one at least for a week or two.

Free advice (worth every penny you paid): Own them both... sell what you don't like. The small delta price you pay to own, use, and sell is worth it to decide what floats your boat, fer shizzle.

Own some Benchmades, some Spyderco's... and then own a Hinderer... and a Mayo... and an RJ Martin... and a Kit Carson... and Scott Cook ... and ... and ... buy/sell your way to the keepers.

Goldmember+ ... out ...
