Second Blade Show?

One of the easiest places to get to and have have a show is Vegas.

There are always flights, always a place to stay and what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas :)

I like where your head is at.

The only reason I ever go to Atlanta is because I couldn't avoid a layover there. Don't think I'll ever set foot in Portland. Promise I never will in San Francisco.

But I go to Vegas just for the hell of it every few years.

Dang man, you'd go to Vegas but not Frisco? Portland? Those are a couple of the nicest cities you'll find...
I'd still attend a Blade West in the Bay area. I have family down there too, and I like the area. Pretty drive from here, even if it is 1000 miles or so.

The deciding factor might be cost and the aforementioned industry associations. Plus I suspect that hotels are a tad cheaper in Portland and Frisco and there are already what? Three major knife shows every year in Vegas?

Yes, but they may have pulled up the ladder. When would you have it in Vegas? You can do winter there like Florida but there are already two shows in the winter in NJ and Miami, Plus SHOT/TKI and Arkansas.
Because they already figured it out. They go there for a reason.

Try Zurich some time. It's almost too nice.

BTDT. Nicer than most. Certainly nicer than Munich. Still a city. Nicest airport I've ever flown Into. Lucerne is more my speed.

You get over 100,000 people and I need a reason to be there other than the atmosphere.

There is always Fall, Spring and Summer if you stay inside.

Blade Show in Vegas would blow the doors off all other knife shows there.

Vegas is the best for conventions. I have been to many there over the decades. Always epic

h, but I also like London, Paris and Brussels. Under 100,000? I saw a bunch of towns "over there" that I liked. Salzburg, Canterbury, Bayeux, Epernay, Kitzbuhel and Heidelberg and a number of the towns around it come to mind.

Vegas with Orlando probably #2.

I think that, in the realization of a show like the blade, it is necessary to consider the ease with which you can reach the location not only by those who reside in the USA, but also, those coming from Europe, South Africa etc.

From Rome I can get to Atlanta with just one plane, the same to go to New York and maybe even Miami. In an international show it is important to consider this too, otherwise many possible participants are eliminated as early as the event design.

PDX is not a small airport. The have direct flights from Amsterdam, London-Heathrow, Tokyo. One stop from pretty much everywhere else on the planet. Lack of flights and lack of CHEAP flights was the problem when the ABS had their all-forged show alongside the Safari Club convention in Reno.

I'd gladly go to blade on the west coast, I'm only two hours north of Seattle. Atlanta will be much more of a pain, although I'll probably still do it.

Another factor might be which weird liberal Left Coast city might be just weird enough to where the people might think that a big knife show is kind of quirky/cool as opposed to scary and threatening. Hasn't Oregon consistently had some of the least draconian knife laws in that part of the country for a while? In some regards, Oregon carry laws are much more lenient than Georgia. As the folks who USED to put on the show in NYC, a friendly political environment can be helpful.

I'm with Adam, Vegas. Ya Kali would be bad. No mammoth ivory, tooth, walrus even warthog tusk all forbidden here in the People's Republik.

Don Hanson III Don Hanson III if Blade Show has 2 shows I am sure big makers will be at both but some of the smaller custom ones might chose the one closest to them but I'm not in the business so my view isn't one to go by but it is a fear of sorts.
The Blade show in Atlanta is the largest knife show in the world. Sure another Blade show would pull a few, but no need to fear.
