Second Case Knife: What Should I Go With?

The Case SBJ is a grand EDC knife, as is just about any jack really. I've always been more partial to the SBJ though, seeing as it's got a certain flair to it. Also the Mini Copperhead is a well thought out pattern and I really enjoy mine. Though I wish they'd offer it in Chrome Vandaium. The Case pen knife (32087), is also a fine, overlooked, choice that's certainly in the same league as a Jack knife.

Good call, Mike, especially with the Wharncliffe version. Here is mine (#6207W SS), which I've been carrying lately.

Now that is one great looking knife!

I would really like to have a sheepsfoot blade on whatever I pick up

Black mamba- A huge thanks for the heads up, I did not know they made any of the small jack knives with a wharncliffe, I was thinking of picking up the small stockman (but they only have it in ss and I'm loving the cv on my peanut) but that mini trapper with a wharncliffe looks awesome.

It really is. As others have mentioned, the mini trapper with wharncliffe is a good do-anything knife, with two long blades in a very portable, non-rolypoly 3.5" size.

Given the blade profiles, the wharncliffe easily pinches open, too, which is nice in a pinch.

Heh.

No sheepsfoot blade on either of these, but I do like 'em!

Case Mini CopperLock SS in Bermuda Green jigged bone and Small Texas Jack CV in amber jigged bone

The Sway Back Jack is also mighty popular. Wish I'd bought one instead of the Gent! It would seem that the Jack has far better fit & finish for some reason--my Gent is so far off centre that the blade rubs the liner. Still have to send mine back to Case!

Good luck, OP! :)

Hey whetrock since you have both, would you mind telling me which you prefer between the mini copperhead and the SBJ? They seem like they have the same blades just configured differently (single spacer seems like it might carry better, although I do love the cv steel on my 'nut).

I've got the same one, and it is one of the nicest newer Cases I've personally handled. Fit & finish are quite good, blade alignment is spot on, snappy and smooth. Now if only I could find one that with the same blade combo, and that nice sawcut treatment, with carbon blades....

I recently got a Sowbelly (#6339 SS) and it's already my favorite slipjoint pattern. The curves really do it for me...also, the sheepsfoot is short and stout, which really gives it a little heft that I enjoy. Great QC, too!
