I was cleaning up the garage in preparation for the holidays when I came across an old roofing hammer that has not been used in many years. It's an old "Estwing" with the molded blue rubber grip. I just hated to through it away. Then it dawned on me to try my hand at converting it into a tomahawk of sorts. I can tell you I have always had an amazing amount of respect for knife makers and Black Smith's but that respect has increased substantially!
I am doing it with a acetylene torch and the 3 pound sledge hammer. I have a heavy duty bench that is working fine but I can tell I wish I had bought one of the many small anvils I seen at auctions. I will nab the next one I see for sure!
Anyhow I thought I would share my progress thus far and will add more as it happens. I am in a (designing stage) right now meaning I'm not sure what to do next...
But I'll come up with something. I need to widen the head (cutting surface) another .075 to 1.0 or so. That's all for now. ~baba~
