Second hidden tang, kind of a tribute

I made this knife based on combining ideas from a couple of my favorite makers. I'm just calling it a scandi companion bowie. The etch is John Cohea's ferric chloride style etch and the blade/handle is a tribute to Erik Markman. I still need to pin it, peen the pin, and finish the hand sanding for the handle, then blue the pin and the ferrule. My question though is, what do you think of the bottom part of the handle? It looks a little clunky to me. Any suggestions?

I've been trying to slowly clean up that transition line underneath the edge where the ferrule meets the handle.

First, I congratulate you on the choice of making hidden tang! I'M NOT ALONE!!!! :)

Second, the handle seems a little chunky to me, but honestly that's a personal preference thing. If it feels right in your hand and you have the right range of movementn with the blade in a comfortable way, it's good to go.

Finally, the blade. I would suggest grinding the bevels MUCH farther up the blade. You didn't even used 25% of the available area.

Thanks for the reply. It is a waste of blade but it is a scandi. I really went for aesthetics and I wanted something I've personally never seen, a scandinavian grind bowie style knife. The hidden tangs are a lot more rewarding to construct in my opinion.

This is more like what I'm after:

Looking good!
The shape of the handle in the last pic is much better.
The nice thing about micarta is you can see where you are going because of the layers.
You can see a flat spot near the end of the handle. Try to blend that in to the hollow you created in the last half of the handle.
I can not judge the thickness of the blade but try to keep your bevels not to steep.

A swedge at the spine may make the blade a bit more pleasing to the eye but that is up to you.

Looking good Mitchell!

That's great! Thank you. I am going to wrap the masking tape around the butt of the handle and finalize the shape later tonight hopefully. Thanks again!
