Well, I finished my second knife.
I'm about half content with it. Some parts came out good, others still need quite a bit of improofment.
But then again, the first ones are all about learning.
I am happy with the way the blade turned out.
Just to try and see if I could do it I filed the spine round.
I finised the blade with P280, folowed lightly with new and sharp P800. That gave it a good satin finish.
I messed up the guard. It is 8mm brass. (app. 1/3inch)
When shaping it I sanded so deep that I met the epoxy I used to attach it. Thats a kind of mistake to spoil your day! (and it will never happen again!)
I like the way the handle looks but when you have it in your hands it doesnt feel completely right. It is a bit to slim, it would have been better if it would have had a belly.
Also, you can feel where the spacer is. It isnt that bad but you will notice it when you have it in your hand.
Also I cut out an oak-leaf on the butt. It didnt turn out to bad but it could have been better. But I enjoyed doing it. I think Ill do that again
A leather sheath will follow.
But overall Ive learned a lot and more important I enjoyed working on this knife
Over all: 9 ¼ inch
Blade: just under 4 ½ inch
Steel: 440B
Guard: brass 8mm
Handle: maple burl
Spacer: oak lined between two brass spacers of 1mm (0,04inch)
Finish: CCL knife oil
