This is really the first knife I bought at Blade Show, about 30 seconds after the doors opened.
What can I say about this knife?
It's by Kit Carson, his Model 4 with a 3" Stellite 6K blade and Stag scales, 7" OAL. If you have ever handled a Carson folder you know what it feels like. If you haven't you don't know what you're missing.

Thanks Kit.

Wow....

Don't see too many stag-handled Carsons around - that's a nice find. Got a dealer to grab a model 4 for me from the Blade show and I just received the good news from him

Well, I got to handle this one about 45 seconds after the doors opened...

I am a big fan of Kit's knives, and have never seen a bad one, but this one is incredible!!! A real beauty, and solid as a rock! Stellite & Stag (don't saying that just make ya tingle?)

I'm just happy I got to play with the knife a lot during the weekend, and even happier that my little stag junky pal Phil got to buy it!

Another great score, Phil!

30 seconds, you say?

Phil, you've got to be the Fastest Knife in the West!

(Here are my original comments on this knife from another thread)

Kit Carson had been teasing me for a while that he was bringing two stag handled folders to Blade, but they wouldn't be for sale. Well as soon as the doors opened at noon on Friday several of us made a bee-line to Kit's table. Beeing from NYC and knowing how to deal with crowds helped because I made my way to the front and Kit put two Wilkinson zippered cases in my hand, inside were two beautiful folders, one in Damascus and one in Stellite and both in stag. I was admiring the work and I looked at Kit and said, "These aren't for sale?" He smiled and said, "Which one do you want?" I showed him the one in Stellite which in my opinion had nicer matching stag, we struck a deal and the knife was mine, all in less time than it took to type this. This started off Blade Show 2001 for me on a high note, and for me the whole weekend was full of high notes. Several folks were pissed at me for being so quick, including Mo and my roommate for the show Gene. I had several offers to buy the knife before the day was over, but this knife will never be sold while I'm alive. In fact the only time it will leave my hands is when I send it off to Gary Graley for one of his belt sheaths.

I believe Kit has only made 3 stag handled knives this year, two Model 4's and one Damascus F4 neck knife. I've had the chance to buy all 3, but only own 2.

Here's my other one.

I've had my Carson model 4 for over a month now and I've carried it and used it every day, for normal daily utility stuff, but I never gave it a real workout. I was in the park this past weekend and I found this old Maple branch and I started whittling on it with my Carson. I wanted to see what all of this Stellite talk was about. This was a tough piece of wood, but the blade cut into it like it was butter. I was getting long curly shavings and I started wondering if this wood was softer than I had thought, so I tried the other knives I had on me. I got shavings, but not like the Stellite blade was giving me. I whittled a 3' branch down to practically nothing, I had to make over 500 cuts and it didn't seem to efffect it. I tried the edge and it would still shave hair off my arm, so I kept on cutting.

I'm not the best person to test or review a knife, but I do know that I was very impressed with the performance of the blade. I don't know if this is typical of Stellite and why there's all the fuss about it? Heck I didn't know this knife was Stellite until someone pointd it out to me, I bought it for the stag. As far as the rest of the knife goes, after all that cutting I didn't have any part of my hand that was red or showed any hot spots from the handle.

Anyone that's handled a Carson knife has to be impressed with the fit & finish, but I was very surprised by the feel and performance of this knife. It's beautiful, but I know Kit made it to be a workhorse as well.

I doubt I'll ever be able to talk Kit into making one, but I'd love to have a Carson fixed blade Hunter. Stellite & Stag would be my choice. ;)

Woahhh, 4 things I love in a knife that that ones got Phil. Kit's name on it, stag handles, hollow ground blade, and SCREWS!!!!!!!! Screws rule!!
Beautiful knife Phil!!

Bein' from New Yawk helped you manage the crowd, eh Phil?

Heh heh heh. Bet you had 3 other guys' wallets by the time you got to Carson's table too, Brooklyn Boy.

Stag was a given, but the Stellite too? Wow, that is a beauty. Now please just don't tell us that you doctored that photo. ;)

Vel,

I got to see and handle that little beauty at the Blade Show also and believe me, That photo ain't doctored. It is a real sweety. Phil may have used up all his knife grabbin luck on that one. ;)

Ditto on what Don said.

When I saw that puppy out on the loading dock, it was all this hillbilly could do to keep from wacking that Brooklyn boy in the head taking the knife an runnin'

Gus,

You would have had to kick him in the shins. His head is to hard and even if you cracked it there is nothing in there to hurt. :D

You have your selves some nice knives there.I had a chance to talk to Kit in Alaska. He is a hell of a nice guy and he makes a great product. He also has some good advise. Thanks Kit.
Sincerley,
Brad

Hi Brad,

Glad you got to meet Kit! In my book one of the most sharing and giving makers out there, especially when it comes to knowledge and rides in the RV :).
