I was fortunate enough to be able to visit AC Richards at his shop a few minutes away from my house. He was gracious enough to let me hang out and bug him with questions while he worked. It was a great experience and I learned a ton! After seeing him forge hot metal it made me really want to start forging metal, it just looked like soooo much fun! As I left he handed me a flat bar of 5160 (seriously what a nice guy! thanks again Chuck) Well I have always wanted to make a chopper so here is my first attempt at hopefully not butchering a perfectly good chunk of steel :D

Great start. Looks like you got the bug. Keep us informed on your progress. BTW it was fun having you around. Come on out again sometime.

So I have been super busy the last couple of weeks. I finally have more time to work on this knife. It has been taking a while because I am trying to do it all by hand, my little 1x30 just plain sucks! I have hogged out the material on both sides with a file and so far only have finish sanded one side (or at least sanded enough prior to heat treat ) The blank has a slight bend to it that I only noticed after I profiled it. I got a little "off" from my scribe line down the center as well. I also want to do something different with my plunge line/ricasso transition. What do you guys think I should do to fix it? I was just planning on doing more sanding but I am worried about taking off to much metal from the edge pre heat treating. I haven't started of the false edge on top either. I will do that after I sand both sides

I think its pretty sexy!!!

I really like the plunge line idea. I will steal this :)

Only thing that jumps in my eye is this is how I would change the swedge area:

It is looking good. I think the swedge harpoon deal (whatever you call it) that transition needs a little sweep curve to it instead of so square but that's just me. I here ya on straighten the blade I did not realize how bent steel comes and messed one blade up not straightening it before I cut in my bevels now i check and adjust all before starting. Keep going you are doing good.
