Here is a pic of the second knife I`ve made. O1 and oak, a little under 9" OAL.

looks like a serviceable working knife.
If I can suggest a few things.
1) Round that handle a bit. It is too rectangular in cross section.
2) work on the ricasso, and try to get a cleaner grind.
3) Stop the grind (place the ricasso) about 1/4" before the handle. You have it going right up to the scales.

I agree with Stacy. Even if you leave the grind location as it is, you could have put a little curve on the front of the scales (so that the bottom of the front of the scales doesn't go so far forward) to make the ricasso area larger and give it a better appearance.

Check out Raylaconico's "A pair of camp utility knives" in the Knifemakers Gallery to see what I mean by a little curve on the front of the scales to give your knife a great look! He did a great job on it!

Thanks for the tips. Everything said here will only help me do better next time.

Thanks,

That is the correct attitude cause trust me these guys aren't knocking your knife they are pointing out the way to make improvements. I had a knife that I felt was the top of my work and when I showed it to very good maker he admired it and then using the knowledge he had gained from experience and other top makers and masters told me a few little things that kept it from being perfect. Hearing the faults is a double edge deal. I was a bit disappointed by them and didn't like that, yet more than glad to find out and gain knowledge so that the next one I do will be even better. I always hope my next knife is better than my last, even if in some small way, I learn on every one. Part of the satisfaction of the work.

Very nice. Love that Nessmuk style.

I agree on the handle. Think of repetitive work with the knife. You don't want blisters. I'm not big on ricasso's, so I like that part too.

I`ve been working on another one, following your advice on the ricasso area. I think I got it a little better this time.

Good for knife number #2. You will get better in time. The best way is to grind grind grind. Thanks for your post. Have a great week-end my friend. - - - -
