So I got my second ZT 0780 ..well this one had a tip unlike my first one, but like others have said the liners did not line up and the blade was way off center....well instead of sending back yet another 780 i figured i'd take it apart clean it out like it was an Emerson...well that fixed the problem.the pivot screw was way to tight...you guys at ZT need to take some notes from the guys at Spyderco...there the QC is impeccable...

Yeah, my 0780 has developed some lock rock... I'm gonna send it in today, but it seems like this particular model is having problems in general. Maybe this explains the mysterious early cancellation? It's too bad because, other than the defects, this knife would be one of my top 3 EDC choices.

The pivot was too tight so they need to work on their Quality Control?
What was wrong with the first one you bought? I think that most of us have been extremely impressed with our ZT knives so I wouldn't be so quick to pass judgment on them.
Best of luck and enjoy your new ZT.

not quite sure what you are trying to do here, but couldn't you have just called them and told them what your issues are? If you think Spyderco doesn't have issues as well, you haven't been paying attention. some of mine have had issues, but I took care of them myself, and then went about my day.
My ZT's, while what I would consider "perfect" by my standards, all required some adjustment, and when I cleaned/lubed them, they end up better than perfect.

I have to agree with both totin [I have had QC issues, well as defects come from them, so they aren't without fail], and KL. Having a "tight pivot" does not by any means constitute qc issues. In fact I think there are quite a few that prefer this when it is being shipped to them for lawful purposes. And its the most basic of things to do on your blade.

I think the main standpoint is that both companies have steller CS. There may be times when batches/products just aren't as impeccable, or the occasional defect/lemon/qc issues [not saying its rare in this case, I do hear a few issues re: the liner alignment]. But the place where it counts is customer service to catch those issues and make it right. Can't call it game, without the last batter when bases are loaded right?

Also I would suggest not bringing another manufacturer directly into this. Even if you wanted to have them lead by example or wanting to exercise your right to criticize; there are ways to go about doing so in a more respectable manner. IE - word choice + tone.

mbjz- You might have some credible points there, but your presentation leaves much to be desired. I question whether you are just trying to bring this to peoples attention, or are infact trolling? Might help if you clarified yourself.

well the first ZT 780 i ordered was missing a TIP! the second one i had to take apart clean and adjust the pivot to get it to line up properly..bought many knives from Spyderco..never had any of these problems......and if you can read i'm not the only one with these problems..............

BTW why not just send it out in a bunch of pieces and let us assemble them and knock $50 bucks off the price lol

Understood, I would have a bitter taste in my mouth also If I had two with problems. Remember though the liners is a common minor problem. I have had to straighten a few myself. The tip is a very rare mistake/big problem and should have been rectified with the place you got it from or if you had to, customer service. I have heard a few people having problems with the 780. Maybe they were doomed from the start. it did take awhile to get them out and now I have heard they are disco'd

I would be on board with the D.I.Y. 780 though for the price!

I bought two and other than the clip holes on the butt end being off, on one both were fine. My Dad decided he'd get one because it was smallish (slim) for blade size and fit his pocket well. He found one cheapest out of Canada and he received it Monday. The blade was so far off center closed, it rubbed if you used the thumb stud, to open it. He tried to fix it, by loosening the screws and re-tighting, but the only way the blade would center was if the pivot was so loose as to have side to side play. The worst thing about it, was the lock was very, very weak and it would rock with very little pressure. Also the cut outs on the butt end were extremely hooked, like they'd just pulled it out of the cast (or cut it and not polished them off, they probably are cut out) in a hurry and left it that way. Made the knife look very unfinished.

Anyway, they got it back today and he hopes they just replace the entire knife. For the money he was pretty disappointed. (his number was 109)

I just ordered one myself, primarily because I want to be part of this whole happening. It's released, there are people up in arms about the quality control and issues, and they're now discontinued. To be frank, I wouldn't mind if mine had some issues. Hell, I just sent my 0550 back to ZT for more repair, 5 days after I got it back from repair after not having it more than a couple of weeks. Considering the eventual rarity of this piece, a bunch of snags doesn't bother me. They'll eventually be fixed, and I'll have a functioning 0780 in the event that I get one with issues. Until then, I've got oh....about 30 Kershaws to use and sleep next to. Wait, what? :foot:

I feel I should qualify. I'm not a blind Kershaw/ZT fan who thinks they can do no wrong. Considering the problems I've had with my 0550, I was very upset and I let the rep know how frustrated I was when I called them before sending it in. I remained polite of course, but I was pretty thorough in explaining how upsetting the issues were considering the price of the knife. They were very apologetic, and helpful in getting my blade back to them to resolve the issues, and I have faith that they'll address them properly, just as they would with the 0780.

I think you should just leave the sandbox and go play someplace else, you are not being very nice. Geez, now I have to get all this sand out of my hair and off my face, hate it when angry kids are in the sandbox :D

Anyone who is unhappy with their 0780 can just send it my way....I'll even be extra nice and say thanks.

I found no issues with either of my 2 0780's. Great size Zero Tolerance knife, flips open without any wrist involvement. I prefer it over a para 2, much easier to open and close.

There does seem to be more reports of QC issues with particular knife though. Se-La vie.
