Securing handle to blade

I am ordering the Green River Buffalo Skinner and some scales to make a handle. It says to use 5/16" cutlery rivets but I would prefer a little fancier more custom appearance. Can I use Corby style rivets on the blade?

Why not go the whole route and order a stick of mosaic pin material. They will really add to your knife. You can cut 2 pieces off the length you need with a hack saw. Drill out the holes in the blank to fit the holes if to small and drill your scale holes one size bigger than the pins and use a good 24 hour epoxy on the inside handle surfaces and inside the pin holes, and clamp it all together, then sand off and finish the outside. If the tang portion doesn't want to drill you could use a dremel and small grinder tip to open up the holes or wrap the blade in wet rags and then use a propane torch to heat the area by each hole up till the start to get red and allow it to cool off slowly and you should be able to drill them with a decent bit. Secure the blank when you drill it. A spinning blade anywhere near finished is NOT a good thing
