Will Spybot work with Avast! installed as well? When we went to Avast!, I had to uninstall Spysweeper as Spysweeper would interfere with Avast!.

Or can I be reasonably assured that Avast! will catch everything? I just want to make sure we're as completely covered as possible.

thx - cpr

Avast! and SpySweeper work well together. I've been using both together for the past several months. I haven't run into any conflicts.

 I was told not to. I'm going to reinstall Spyseeper tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads up.

Got my laptop back and I now have WebRoot running on all my computers. So far so good everything is running smoothly.

I use avg and just continually check my start up programs in msconfig and the regedit files. I also keep track of any new programs that might show up on my task manager.

Why do people insist on making this statement? Did you not read that it's a company computer? He really doesn't have a choice in the matter.

Geez, people. Wake up and read before you post.

That and, you know, Linux has a WEE bit of a learning curve.

On occasion, I get a message that my computer may have been attacked and some sort of rogue anitvirus program starts downloading. You can't stop it, so I just hit the power button.

If you are getting that message, then your computer is likely already infected with malware. I had a deal called "antivirus XP08" on my computer once. It popped up and pretended to run a "scan" finding "hundreds of viruses." It was easy to get rid of.

Whatever the name of the "Antivirus" that is displayed, do a google search and you will find instructions for getting rid of it. I think I used SD fix? to fix mine. I did the same for my former boss on her work computer when she had a similar problem.

Definitely a good idea to go with multi-layer defenses for your computer these days.

I'm running Avira antivirus on a Vista install. Runs in the background and doesn't eat up too much memory. Also have Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware installed. Run both of those programs about once a week. SAS is really good. Caught and eliminated a Trojan virus that I've been fighting for the past few weeks.

Definitely back up anything important (documents, photos, financial info.) to a flash drive or backup hard drive. Force yourself to do it about once a week, or more often if you are working on a major project.

Turns out our home office in Switzerland had changed a setting that
didn't have the protection looking at the temp folder...for some reason!
So a lot of folks picked up some viruses.

We ended up having to wipe my hard drive clean and do a new installl
not a fun thing!
