Every couple weeks or so I get calls or emails from various parties interested in purchasing this site.

Just to clear up any misconceptions, I'm not interested in selling it to anyone. You guys are awesome, this is a great community, so why would I let anyone else come in and take it?

So, when I get calls from "brokers" or whomever who want to make me an offer, I lean back and I smile, because I know what's up. Nobody wants to purchase this site for altruistic reasons. They want to buy it because they know it's under monetized. The lack of banner ads everywhere, skimlinks, text ads, etc make this a gold mine to anyone who can get it for themselves. What they fail to understand is that it's that way for a reason.

"We represent a client who would like to make you an offer for the site, are you interested in selling?" is how the pitch usually goes. Typically I'll respond with "Sure, but it will cost you a ridiculous amount of money." Banter goes back and forth and most often it will end with them saying "We're prepared to offer you... 4 to 5 times your annual earnings!"

:jerkit:

They never expect to hear someone laugh at that line. I'm sure people eagerly hop on that like it's some sort of lifeline. But for me, I think we do a better job than anyone else out there in our niche. You guys largely police yourselves, the community is amazing, there aren't huge problems all the time, and in general things are just fine as they are. We are a resource to the community. We provide information, interaction, and more. Why on earth would I let someone else come in and screw that up? I'm not an idiot; if I wanted to heavily monetize the site, I would do so. That I haven't should say a lot.

Thank you guys for being so great. Thank you for contributing to the group. Thanks for supporting the site.

Thank you for providing us a fantastic place to share our love of knives. You're right, this is the best knife site on the Web.

Thanks for not selling this one in a Million site on the web to someone who turn it into a Facebook of blades site.

If that were to happen, I would think there would be a mad dash for the door, that might crash LaBella's site. :D:D:D

The next time someone makes you this offer, just give them a link to one of the many LOL Cat threads to throw them off track. :D

Thanks Spark,

I may have just joined recently, but I'm beginning to see that what you've said about this site to be true.

As soon as I get a PayPal, I'm clicking that link in your signature. Even if I do already own a Skyline.

Thank You Spark! I (and everyone else) really appreciate you keeping this site... Every time one of my favorites gets sold, i just can't find it in my heart to stay on. it goes from a genuine community to a corporate clusterf#@k. I will keep supporting BF as much as i can by being a member in good standing and contributing to this truly awesome community.

The entertainment and knowledge base here and the exchange makes membership a true bargain. Thanks, Spark. And you SCARED the hell out of me with your subject line! Shame! :D

^^^ This ^^^

But like the others have said, thanks for an awesome community and for sticking to your principles on this. It is much appreciated.

Spark, as I understand it, you are NOT selling the forum. I suspect eventually you will, but that is "progress". Knife Forums was recently sold to the folks at Blade Magazine. They have an abundance of advertising. The problem there is that I seldom can even open the site and get a message that I don't have an internet connection or some such garbage. I try a couple times and I punt. Hence that forum in practice is not a resource to me.

You think he SCARED you, I'm just glad that I'm not back pocket carrying Carbon today. :D:D:D

Yeah, why mess up a good thing that has been going on now for a very long time. :D

Spark, thank you for being real and keeping it real. I hope the site continues to flourish based on the community and without the outside interests. It says a lot that these raiders want to come in and profit from your work, you've done a fine job! Money can't buy Bladeforums love.

thank you for keeping the amazing place just they way it is......DAMN THE MAN. SAVE THE EMPIRE.(sorry i have wanted to use that movie line forever now.)

thank you Sir for giving us a place to discuss and learn. worth ever dollar i've spent and then some. especially nice allot of the manufacturers participate and we get info straight from the horses mouth. that alone is worth it's weight in gold.

This is one the best forums I have ever seen much having the pleasure to be a part of. This site is ran really well and the community is awesome, I hope that never gets messed up.

Life is short... stay sharp.

One first page link w/o a nofollow tag on it would vault any knife, gun or self defense site to the top of Gizoogle listings on the their next update.

Blimey Cap'n, tis good to hear you'll be at the helm. Send these profiteers to Davy Jones' Locker with a grin on yer face! :D
