Seeking out a mentor

I am in the US Army and am relocating to Hawaii soon. I am very new to knife making and have only made a couple of knives but I now have the bug. I have to learn more and I can only learn so much from YouTube. I would like to maybe even one day do this for a living but I feel I need a lot more guidance and obvious practice. I am hoping to possibly find a mentor in Hawaii who I can apprentice under and learn. I am a very hard and dedicated worker and am hoping someone would be willing to take the time to help me. Any responses are much appreciated and I thank everyone in advance.

Hey friend, first of all, please update your profile so we know where you are. Odds are someone is close to you. And if not, you'll have to do it like a lot of us do and just use YouTube and blade forums as our mentor. Good luck.

Viral thanks for the advice. I updated as much as I can for now. I am moving their in September though so I am trying to find someone willing to teach me in advance. I would totally pay for the instruction if I had to within reason. But you're right if I can't find anyone I will continue to use the forums and YouTube.

Thanks for the advice also. I will definitely find out more information about him.

Josh if you indeed have an interest I would think you would'nt want to
waste 6 or 7 months to wait for your move to Hawaii. Believe it or not
when a lot of us learned there was no "youtube" or internet for that
matter. What a dull world it must have been.
Ken.

Thanks for all the help guys. I have sent Dan an email and am waiting for a response. If I don't hear anything I will definitely keep trying other makers.
