Seeking someone who could make a blade, or suggestions for a "do-it-yourself"

Hi all,
My hobby/collecting flips from collecting vintage watches back and forth to blades. Been awhile since I've frequented the Blade Forums.

I've always loved old Japanese/Samurai swords. When it comes down to it, it has always been an affliction with the hamon on the blades from tempering. What I want to do, or am looking for, is possibly someone to forge a blade (knife blade, or wak/katana sword blade) that is either water/oil quenched to produce a hamon. Preference would be for simply the blade to be forged and have the tempering done. The rest of the process, I want to do myself, as I have the stones and some experience with polishing a blade. Seeking the blade to be rough, fresh out of the forge basically. I have no idea what that would cost me to have someone do?

My other thought, would be to do it myself. But I'd definitely need to obtain a forge, anvil, tools... Unless someone knows of any forge in Ontario, Canada, that shares/rents out time in the shop?

Thanks in advance,

Tim

Making a sword for you first forged blade is probably not a good idea. It's way beyond the capabilities of many that have been forging blades for a very long time. Ambition is one thing, but setting yourself up for probable disappointment is another.

I don't want to discourage you, but I would suggest that if you want to make it yourself, that you should start with simpler blades. Learn proper forging, heat treating and finishing on smaller blades. As your skills advance, and your confidence grows, then you can tackle something more ambitious.

I think that having someone that has attained the skills make it for you is probably the best option at this time.

Sorry, for being a downer.

Thanks! I figured I'd be over my head with either forging or doing a sword as first project. :) I guess in general, I'm wondering what it would cost to have someone forge a fixed blade to include what would eventually be a visible hamon.

Currently, I have a Puma White Hunter. I'd love to have a similar length/style blade, forged with an active hamon, provided to me in a raw form straight from forging it.
