I was browsing YouTube and ran into this video. Just for the fun of it, do you find this person assertion that he has been a lifelong knife collector credible?

I have seen very little on YouTube, about knives, that I found credible. So mostly I don't watch it anymore.

O.B.

lol yeah - he may in fact be a 'life long knife collector' - but it's all mtech and gas station junk... he's obviously never learned much about knives (or how to use or even open them... lmao it's painful watching him try to open flippers and never actually succeeding)

guys like him are responsible for the continued existence of mtech, which is deeply annoying if you have a basic appreciation of meritocracy

looking on the bright side - his video is a great addition to the 'tactilol' threads here : )

The guy on the video probably represents the average joe. These are the kind of knives that most people get to handle. Those that enjoy outdoor sports might buy something at Bass/Cabelas, and those in the trades might get something at Lowe’s or Home Depot; but, it is rare to find people who can enjoy the level of knives that we like to discuss here.

But, while I can accept his choice of knives, I am not going to accept his lying. He claims to be a lifelong collector, yet most of those knives look recently made. They are not knives that I normally follow, yet I doubt that any of them are more than 10 years old. Further, there is no indication of use or familiarity with the knives. To me it looks like he purchased a box of knives a couple of days before he made the video.

Well now, wait a minute. If he's ten years old, then that explains everything.

He could be a "life long collector" if he is a teenager, which I think he is.
His hands are those of a young person. Ditto the voice.

I agree he seems very young ... but no matter age length of time collecting has nothing to do with taste ...

I fast forwarded after a while, but ya know what? He seems very happy with his knives. :D I'll even confess that there are a couple in that pile that I may have liked back when I was 15 years old, so I'm not gonna judge.

This one looks normal. How did it get in there with all the mermaids and dragons?

I'm ashamed to admit how much I spent on funding Mtech when I was in my late teens. They're not up to the standards of Bladeforums, sure.

I would argue that Mtech exists for a very good reason: to be an accessible means for young collectors to figure out what they like. A gateway drug, if you please.

I haven’t run into many teenagers who refer to themselves as “life long” anything. It is just two words that seldom come up at that age.

It's things like this that make me wish BladeForums had a vomiting emoticon... Although I can see why there isn't one.

I was also into things like that when I was a pre-teen to young teen. I regrettably remember looking at a shiny MTech thinking it looked really cool, and remember being gifted a flashy Tac Force which I still have, for comedic value.

But this... This is too far. Someone needs to show him the light.

What is this knife?

If he's been collecting those his entire life, then that's a lot of time wasted being ignorant.

that was painful...i couldnt make it to the end. so much junk...sure he may enjoy it but i just cant handle it.

What is this knife?
I froze the picture, and I think it was marked "Brother". A Google search shows a Chinese knife company making slightly less absurd, more traditional looking junk knives.
