Many Spydercos are made in Sekei City, Japan. I understand Outdoor Edge has knives made there, too. I was idly wondering about why so many knives are made there. Is it a steel mill center? A high-tech, precision tool center? A long-time Japanese samurai blade-making center, perhaps? Anybody know?

Mochiman1 - about 800 AD the sword makers of Japan started to migrate to Seki City. Seki is located in the Gifu mtns near Nagoya. The temperature was ideal. The soil had good iron content for making steel. The Nagaragawa and Kisogawa (rivers) supplied the necessary water. The breezes were gentle and constant. These makers came to Seki to discuss carbon migration in molten steel.

You must keep in mind that the Europeans had not yet reached the dark ages, In America the Natives had mastered fire.

For 1200 years, this town hs been involved in the making of sharp pointy things. Their skill is great. Hope this helps.
