As much as this thread is off the rails, out to sea, and off the map, I don't want it closed. If it is closed than all of this angst over the knife will spill into other threads, new threads, and generally over the subforum. The sun is risen after a night of disturbing dreams wherein the threads of my pjs came unravelled and were snipped off by pessimistic curmudgeonly goblins using those little nail scissors that the Mrs keeps in her handbag because they missed out on the ordering thread....they swarmed all over me like poisonous ants carrying the thread away ...i reached out to haul it back but it was gone behind a tiny ant door that slammed shut and locked ...i awoke in panic ..the sound of sinister snickering from behind the mini door fading into the netherworld of sleep.
Thank God it was only a dream......a prophetic dream nonetheless....I have contacted Porchenberg Haberdashery and ordered a full body length rough Hessian sleeveless garment with hood...I will wear nought else until a blade sharp enough to cut the harsh fabric is in my possession....

Man you start using words like “need” and it all falls apart. I think it’s going to be an amazing knife, I’d get it if you have the opportunity and you can always move it along to another member if it doesn’t work out for you.

I suppose you are correct about the "need" part. The handle material, surface treatment and color are not something that I am fond of plus it is pretty much the same size as my model 78. I still will need to think it over, price will probably play a part in my decision.

I guess I could always order one and send it down the road in a few years if I am not happy with it.
