Self Defense Choices?

My wife just ordered this for me for an early Christmas gift as we didn't know how long it would take to arrive.

It is a coin pouch that evidently can make an effective sap or so I've heard, not that I'd ever use it as such.

I bought my fiancé a couple cans of pepper spray to have around for self defense. She isn't to keen on having my shotgun around and not locked up for home defense when I move in but I don't see myself giving in on that one.

Clever way of carrying a sap where not allowed like here in WA.
Me wants a Hot Tamale!

Anyone have any experience with the Kimber Pepper Blaster?
I saw them on their web site and thought they sounded like a good idea.(I like the second shot feature)
But you got me to wondering so I went looking for reviews and after watching this and another vid I see that it takes a few seconds to take effect, seconds the attacker can use to do damage to the victim.:thumbdn:

Flourescent squirt gun filled with skunk scent......:)
I used skunk as a cover scent when hunting out in NC and grew to actually like the smell.
I know strange, but to this day if I smell skunk it doesn't bother me.
Of course I've never been sprayed by a skunk full blast.........
I don't imagine it would leave a pleasant memory.:barf:

debilitating! Lol

If you're looking at sprays get one with cs tear gas, that stuff makes it almost impossible to open your eyes and hard to breathe if you inhale it, I think that's it's main benefit, though it and oc (ppr gas) also burn a lot. I've experienced cs multiple times in the military and I've been close enough to a fight that was broken up with it to see how effective it can be, but just because someone's blinded doesn't mean they'll stop, you'll just have a great advantage.

Here is a pocket dump from awhile back.

Those two-finger knucks fit my hand pretty darn good and I would hate to be on the receiving end of them.

I bet they would split your skin open and bust some teeth mighty quick.... If my hits land... I haven't been in a fight in a decade or better.

I should have mentioned that this would be for a woman who can't carry a firearm at work, not for me. I'll stick with my Glock.

Many different options out there.
When it comes to OC, I recommend Fox Labs. They are one of the top brands at 5.3 scoville heat units. It's key to remember a few things, it's not a tactical nuclear strike, it doesn't work on everyone, and the user will more than likely be affected by it as well. It is a non-lethal alternative. After it is deployed, it's time to discard the container and move to another option, whether that be another weapon or "transition to nike's" (get the heck out of there), if possible.

Another non-lethal that wouldn't so much warrant a phone call to the local PD is a good flashlight. Start at no lower than 130-ish lumen. They can also be used as impact weapons if need be. But what a light offers the user is the opportunity to see things. Even in daylight a bright flashlight will cause someone to raise their hands covering their eyes, which also reveals if they have anything in their hands.

And, speaking of impact tools, there are many to choose from, from singular purpose driven (kubotan) to using sharpie markers, tactical pens, a rolled up magazine, a flail like paracord keychain, a carabiner or two...

And using tools effectively requires training. Training in those tools, plus training in situational awareness, as well as avoidance, deselection and disengagement techniques. And mindset truly has a huge impact when the fight is on.

I'm sure due to being really tired right now that I'm skipping over a number of pieces of information, but that gives a few quick things to think about.

Flashlight with impact bezel on both ends. But unless shes trained with even some basic knowledge it can work against her if something were to happen.

Here is my new Hot tamale from Mean Gene Leather.

I filled it with $25 dollars worth of dollar coins to break in and stretch out the leather. It uses a pull the dot fastener so there is no fear of losing it once it's on your belt. I'm not law enforcement but if I saw it on a belt I don't think I would even second guess it. All I do is pull the dot up and pull the business end straight up and out of my belt line and it is ready for a good solid slap. It will also crush an apple with ease so I'd hate to see a hit to the face or knee.

It may sound strange, but I've regularly carried a 12-note Hohner Marine Band harmonica as a defensive striking tool when flying commercial or traveling places where I can't carry a knife or a .45 - the fingers curl naturally around the rounded metal body, leaving about an inch and a half of squared-off brass-reinforced hardwood ends sticking out on either side of my fist. And no one's ever thought twice about it in more than 30 years (except one security police airman at an undisclosed underground location and some Italian carabinieri at the Rome airport, who in both cases thought it looked like a 9mm weapons clip when viewed in my briefcase under xray. In both cases, things quickly eased up considerably after I played a few notes).

By the way, it's also allowed me to sit in with a good number of bands, including blues grammy-winner Johnny Clyde Copeland.
