I am trying to figure out whey the Sebenza cost so much. I have a Sypderco Paramiliary II with an CMP S35VN blade, but was less that half the price of the CRK made with the same steel. is there a reason this knife cost so much, is it worth the money? Should I get one?

buy the seb and hold it in one hand and the pm2 in the other , they are both great knives , i have both and love them . The sebenza ( all crks ) are just in a different league . Fit and finish . Enjoy your sebenza .

If you have to ask the question then your answer is yes. you wont be dissapointed in the long run.

You will not be disappointed in the sebenza. There are knives made with the same materials S30V and titanium scaled framelocks that are cheaper like ZT and also the same materials that cost a bit more than the sebenza like Strider. I really like ZT and would recommend them to anyone. Strider, I am not even going to go there as I will never own another until they get their quality is order ( not likely in this lifetime, tired of their excuses ), but thats another story and not for here.

After handling the sebenza and really only until then will you realize what all the fuss is about. Plus there are different sebenzas that may appeal to you even more than a plain one. There is the regular sebenzas ( my favorite ), the classic, the 21, the tanto and insingo versions, options such as Inlays, etc. Lots of choices. All have easily and I mean easily the tightest tolerances in the industry. Zero blade play, rock solid lockup, everything is perfect. Plus they are backed by the Best Warranty in the business as well. They hold their value. You just cant go wrong.

Let us know which you decide upon....?

When people ask me to justify $400+ for a knife, honestly my first thought is along the lines of "if you have to ask... " I want to share the absolute pleasure in using my sebensa, so I try to relate it to something they can understand. For most it's as simple as asking if they can understand the difference between a Ford and a Mercedes. The point of both is to achieve the same result, but they are not the same. Both will get the job done, but one is a lot more satisfying than the other. Some people don't get why everyone doesn't have the cheapest knife they can find and treat it like crap. For those people, a CRK will be too expensive no matter what. I suspect if you are curious about the love affair we all have with such a plain looking knife, there may be hope for you in finding the same thing. No one can talk you into or out of the money it takes to get one, I fought it for a while myself. I only wish I had the money back I wasted on all the knives I bought before my sebensa. I would rather have 4 CRK knives, over the boxes of knives I have now.

Just got a small 21 myself...absolutely love it! Very well made, excellent lock up, super sharp, fits my hand like a glove! Does anyone know what type of cord they use for the lanyard? Definitely not 550.

I have have both.. The Pm2 is nice and I enjoy it. I know it cuts better than my regular sebenza. I would not trade you 2 or 3 blue pm2's for my regular large sebbie. ( I have the blue one)

I have had 10 xm-18's, great knives .. Would I rather have 2 Sebenzas than one xm-18?? Hell yes!

So, it's simple.. You can enjoy and learn as most of us have..

That at the end of the day, you will be hard pressed to find a better knife for your money or enjoyment than a Sebenza.

I guess my question is, what makes this knife so great

Before I held one of these knives, I thought the same thing as you. CRK's just have quality you can feel. Even non knife people that I showed them to knew instantly that they were holding extremely well made, precision cutlery. I had a large 21 and a small 21, but I ended up selling both of them. While I don't want to bash these knives (they are excellent), they just didn't do it for me. I honestly prefer Benchmade, especially for my rougher EDC. When it comes to a fine gents knife, I have a few customs and a William Henry, so it's not the price tag that drove me away. CRK just isn't visually appealing to me, but they are worth the money.

I would suggest trying one if you have the money. If you don't like it, you can sell it pretty much instantly here on the forums without losing too much.

I think it depends on what you want to use it for. I bought a small (plain) Sebenza several years back. It's a fine knife, but I prefer to carry the a handful of Spydercos I've picked up since, especially the Caly. I don't do any real heavy cutting. I don't need "bank vault" lock up. I'm not crazy over the open frame that lets change get in the knife. I don't like the way the titanium Sebenza handles get dinged up (though after a while it doesn't matter). I prefer to flip a mini-Grip, especially the Ritter, for a knife to mindlessly play with. That's my opinion. Yours may be completely different.

A sebenza is simplicity and perfection. Me personally, I would never carry or own a "plain" sebenza because I like a bit of bling/flare to my knives, which is why an inlayed sebbie is in my top 5 of favorite knives of all time.

It all boils down to appreciating quality. Anytime you get far enough into a hobby, you start to appreciate those things. Whether you prefer your Sebenza, Strider, Hinderer, etc once you progress into the hobby you want the best of the best. Just like the guy who wants his $600 Arawana fish if he's into aquariums, or the guy who spends $1200 on a custom made fly rod. It's all about what you like and do.

The sebenza is one of those knives that "has" to be felt and held to be appreciated. Any pictures, no matter how good they are, just don't do this knife justice. Once you get it in your hand, you will just know the difference and say "ah huh!" :) Like chuka said, the more in depth you delve in the knife folder hobby, the more you will appreciate the little things and notice how the sebenza got all them right. When you hold and use a sebenza or any CRK's you will get the feeling like I have that whoever made it, really, really, put some serious, serious thought into what it means to make a folder excellent. If you have a little extra and fancy the unique graphics or the inlay options available, totally go for it and you won't be sorry. Enjoy your new seb. :)

The answer is the same answer you give to your friend that ask why you would pay over $100 for a Sypderco Paramiliary II when you can buy a good Gerber for under $30.

For me one of the selling points is that the Sebenza isn't going to acquire any blade play, lateral or vertical.
Pride of ownership is another selling point for me. One can have pride for any level of knife, from entry level, to museum quality knives, so that part ends up being subjective.

I have both knives too. The sebenza is my all time
Favorite knife, and my EDC. Unless I am in a situation where it's Possible my sebe could be confiscated (traveling abroad, cities, etc) and then I'm always carrying the para2.

The truth is 90% of the time, most of us could get away with a Swiss Army knife, but if you want the very best, something that will last you a lifetime, something you can always count on, something that you can easily maintain and clean yourself, go with a sebenza! I must add, the sebenza is actually a bargain, if you compare it to all the custom
Knives out there that cost 2-3 times as much and honestly don't hold a candle to a crk.

the knife "nut" path takes some time, you start out with bad knives, then go to good knives, understand they have some "minuses" with finish, heat treat, design and the like so you become more demanding
that's when you get a CRK or a Sebbie

the para is good, the HT is not the best, finish is good actually, design is nice with not the best in use (high blade, no straight edge) it's good OK but it's not the best (sold all mine), the sebbie? yes you should get one to confront. And figure out yourself
in any case it's worth a try at least, but I'm sure most people will understand and appreciate it even if it has been hard to earn the $$$ to get one, happened to me and I'm on my 4th crk, user crk.

my 2 cents
wish you a pleasant "knife journey"
maxx

I normally wouldn't say something like this but this question has been asked a million times do a search and sell your self on it
