Sell me your favorite knife

Lots of people who are new to knives want to know what to buy. Everybody has an opinion, and at forums like these, they tend to be well informed. But to take a slightly different angle, instead of asking what knife I should buy, I'll ask you to (hypothetically) sell me the knife you chose for your own edc. I realize many of you have a dizzying array of knives to choose from each day, so you'll have to pick your favorite. Don't tell me why you bought it, but tell me why I should.

On a somewhat more serious note, I'm not sure I can identify "my favorite" that easily...but I know it isn't any of the ones I am carrying right now.
Are we talking favorite modern folder, favorite fixed blade, favorite traditional, or ??

A new angle I havent thought of. :D

If we sell you a knife, we like, your needs would need to match ours, your preferences would also need to match, even the ergos we enjoy you would have to enjoy. Not a good way to buy a knife imo, but hey, it's worth a shot.

The manix 2. Perfect ergos for my medium hand, nice steel in s30v, great lock up, customizable, g10.

GEC - bc/ everyone should have at least one traditional

Good question. I am in the market for a modern folder, and you just happen to have the perfect one.

For arguments sake (and because it is true) I am a pretty medium-sized urban dwelling white collar guy. Hobbies include rock climbing, hiking, camping, shooting handguns. I currently edc a M&P9c in an IWB hybrid holster, a CRKT M16, and a Zippo (don't smoke, just think it is cool) I need a flashlight too, but that may be a different thread.

benchmade 94x. amazing edc, super light, incredible blade shape. its thin, just long enough handle, blade length is just right. it has an axis lock, smooth as butter right outta the box, amazing customer service should something go wrong, the list goes on.

I'll play:

Buck 110: Classic design, the granddaddy of all modern folders. 420HC steel as touched by the magical hands of Paul Bos. The 110's a heavy brute, but just try breaking one. I've dropped mine on concrete, scarred it up, and the brass ages so wonderfully with handling that the scratches wore away. There's no worry of snapping a pocket clip here, carry it in a belt sheath, thus freeing up a pocket for a wallet/phone/additional knife. As always, it's made in USA, and can be found for less than $30 if you know where to look. Lifetime warranty, honorable company. Buy one now, give it to your grandkids in thirty years.

And that is exactly the reason you should buy it

Trying to be serious - modern folder is a tough category.
I think I could choose a favorite traditional fairly easily (GEC 77 in smooth autumn bone - it's the one I carry most of the time, these days).

Modern folder.....hmmmmmm....I'm going to have to say either the ZT0200kw (or sw), or ZT0550. Both are discontinued, and considered by many to be pocket bricks. I recently acquired a copper scale for the 0550, which put it back in my pocket (the 0200 rides in my jacket, now).

I need a flashlight, too
Olight S2 (in copper, of course...because, well, it's copper). If that is a little too big for your needs, Olight S1A (there's a copper limited edition - get it while you can!)

btw - I'm somewhat disturbed that you described yourself as pretty.

I can't say I disagree. I have had 110s before, and I am selling one now. It is too nice to carry, in my opinion. It's an older one that has some nice custom file work done though. A work horse 110 would be different. I'm kind of settled on a knife I can operate one handed though.

Interesting, but it won't work.

I can write a 2000 word essay on a knife I love and why you should buy it...maybe even convince you, but because you are not me there is a good chance you won't like it the way I do for a million + 1 reasons.

You need to really know someone who's into the same knives for the same reasons as you (hard to do) and they will be able to give you the right knives to try.
It doesn't always work out, but it's the best advice you will get if you can't make up your mind.

Okay, I'll take this tack...

Here, fresh out of my pocket, is a knife that I like to EDC. It's not my "favorite", but I own a dizzying array of knives and I like them all for different reasons. I'll sell you this one.

It's a Benchmade HK 14716 Mini Axis. The steel is D2 and the handles are sand colored G10. Like this...

It is tough as nails. Holds a great edge, and is easy to sharpen and maintain... Benchmade seems to know what they're doing with D2.

It is slim in the pocket and an easy carry at under 3 ounces. Despite how the handle shape may look, the ergonomics are great. And the Axis lock is just plain awesome in my book.

For under 90 bucks, I find it a good value. You should get one today, because this model is discontinued and once they're gone, they're gone.

Stop by tomorrow and I'll sell you whatever knife I happen to be carrying then.

I'm about to hand you a model 110 folding hunter , and it's razor sharp so be careful.
This knife is a pure American classic and has been carried by many men and women since it debuted in 1964, and is still carried by many today.
This sturdy lockback folder is not a fancy one handed opener, but there are a few aftermarket solutions to this if you so desire .
It has a solid brass frame which makes it a bit heavy by today's standards but when carried in the nice leather Sheath it comes with its pretty much a non issue.
The steel is an expertly heat treated 420hc that is an ideal choice as it's easy to sharpen yet holds an edge respectably, however we also offer it from the custom shop in a selection of more advanced modern steels as well as other handle materials like deer stag .
If you can believe it this American made knife is available in stores for about 38$ in most cases and sometimes less.
This knife will last you a lifetime and is something your grandkids will be able to appreciate long after you are gone. If this knife ever fails you can send it to us and we'll make it right no questions asked.

My current most commonly carried knife lately is the ZT0095BW, and it has been the perfect everyday knife for me. It's big enough and tough enough to handle most tasks (I carry something different for outdoor work), but still sleek and elegant enough that it is not out of place in most settings. It is well made with good materials, has a beautiful design, is comfortable in the hand, and flips great. I'm a huge fan of the Blackwash DLC finish as well. It gives the knife a sophisticated look that not only holds up well to wear, but hides wear so that it mostly goes unnoticed. Finally, it has the most important factor to consider when buying a knife IMO...It's just plain damn cool...That alone is reason enough to buy.

Also, you mentioned you need a flashlight. Therefore I feel it is my duty to mention the Surefire Aviator. It has a low output red secondary beam that you can use in close up conditions without dilating your pupils and blowing your natural low light vision, and then if you depress the tailcap further it has a normal bright white light. There are certainly less expensive lights out there, and many will argue there are better ones out there as well, but having carried one of these for years I can tell you that this is the perfect light for me.

Buy a Randall.
Hand made.
Quality steel.
History.
Small company.
Many different models.
Authorized dealers, so no wait.
Family heirloom.
Every American should own one.

Edit: I'm a dumbass. I just noticed you are looking for an EDC knife. Try a Griptilian. Cheap, decent steel, light weight, American company, great customer service, one handed opening/closing, and the Axis lock.

Here's mine. I hate trying to say one is my favorite, but if I had to choose, for me, it would be the ZT 0560BW.
