Hello, just wondering for some recommendations on seller feedback.

I'm happy with the knife and the fact the seller did ship to Canada however the seller requested me to cover PayPal percentage% which is against PayPal policy and then asked for $40 shipping. Upon receiving parcel shipping was only $28. I requested a return of the difference but the seller said he got a $35 ticket because of the paperwork he had to fill out at the post office. Overall I'm happy with the knife but not with conduct of the seller. Would you give Neutral or Negative feedback in this case?

Thanks

AF

In my opinion if you were not happy with the terms before the sale you should not have agreed to them. I dont much agree with the sellers excuss of a $35 ticket, but its a little late now to change the terms of the sale since its done and over.

As far as the additional percentage for using paypal its a very common practice here and every other forum i am on. Its basically a convenience fee for the buyer if they chose to use regular paypal instead of sending a money order.

I was happy with the terms of the sale, I've definitely paid similar shipping charges before so it didn't seem unfair but considering after the fact it turned out cheaper I just thought it seemed fair to offer a refund.

depending on how far the seller lives from a post office, it may have cost him a significant chunk of that difference in fuel.
If the item was as described and you were happy with the deal, what does it matter how much he actually paid for shipping -- if it had showed up with a $50 shipping label on it, would you have been OK with sending him more $$ to cover the difference that way?

Was the shipping cost listed in his post? As well as the added PP fees?

If so, it's a 'contract' you agreed to. You can't be frustrated. When you post "I'll take it.", the contract is signed.

I never EVER charge the PP fee or ask for gift, but that's me. That's a LOT of shipping. This is a renowned eBay tactic also, to bump the sale $.

Now, if shipping was open-ended, then you get extra frustration points.

I would make it a point from now on to do the following:
1. Read all the terms of sale, make sure you understand what you are getting into.
2. Ask for pictures, ask questions, make sure you clarify anything and everything that is of concern for you.
3. Read the person's feedback, located in the profile, read through their posts, look at the entire picture.

It wouldn't be a good reflection on you to drop negative feedback on this person, afterall you did agree (in writing) to the terms of sale. What I think you are going through at this point is akin to buyer's remorse. In retrospect the frustration is kicking in, I can understand. If the knife arrived in the condition stated, in a reasonable timeframe, then negative or neutral feedback is not warranted.

If the person got a ticket for improperly parking his vehicle, that is his problem and not yours. No one forced him to park in a bad spot, or to ship that day, etc. You should not have to pay for someone elses inability to read signs or fill out paperwork. The customs form takes literally 3 minutes or less to fill out.

Sorry for posting in the wrong board but thanks for correcting.

International shipping was not listed in post but through email said that it would be $40. Shipping was to be through a courier which at $40 seemed reasonable based on my own past experience. Shipping was done through USPS which was fine by me but I was alerted to this after funds were sent.

That is some shady behavior then. He overcharged you for shipping, lied about the shipping basically, and used the least expensive method? What was the postage total ona the package? Should be printed out.

Well then that is a different story. If you paid for a certain type of shipping but the seller then shipped a totally different way that just happened to be much cheaper then i would be upset and want a refund aswell.

Postage total was $28. I know that's not a big difference, it's just the principle behind it that had me upset. Prior to payment I provided my po box when asked for my address and he said the courier couldn't ship to a po box and so I provided an alternate address that a courier could deliver to. Two days after payment I received email that he had no problem shipping it with USPS and went that route.

So considering seller is being difficult is there a really a positive outcome....I understand refund is't going to happen but if I leave negative feedback than I assume I will be left negative feedback saying I am "difficult international customer".

Probably best to just move on. I would not leave Fb and call it a day. We could all say technically this or that, but I do not see any reason in the end to make this a negative experience for the both of you. Just my opinion.

I would ask another Q in follow-up to this. When you say courier - did you mean Fedex or UPS? If so, I really do not see the big deal about how it got there (USPS) as those are really the 3 main ways to do it.

*Posting from mobile* I'm not sure off the top of my head what courier it was but it wasn't Fedex or UPS. It doesn't matter to me how it was shipped either, I've found that USPS is usually cheaper though. I just don't like the fact that the seller said shipping would cost him $40 and when it actually costed him $28.

In that case, he should have refunded the $12, I've done that in the past when shipping over the border was less than I anticipated.

I agree RevDevil but I guess there's really no recourse, but still good to hear that someone agrees with me.

I would be upset too if that happened to me. In fact, something similar did happen to me. I sold a knife to a guy overseas years ago, he said he would pay the extra shipping, then he decided he wanted it shipped to a US address instead. Last minute he changed his mind and wanted it shipped overseas. He promised he would pay extra shipping, he was waiting for payday. Being the trusting person I am, I shipped the knife on my dime all the way BFE. Never heard from him again. I didn't pursue it any further than a nice email explaining that I hoped he ended up cutting himself with his new blade. ;)
