Selling my modern folder collection for traditional knife spending money!

I'm sick. This sickness has taken me over and forced me to do the unbelievable. All of my cherished titanium framelocks are heading out and being replaced with rusty old pocket knives! Out with the new in with the old!!

It's pretty unbelievable. I really have very little interest in modern folders anymore and they are all in such large production numbers I can always pick them up down the road. But I keep missing out on all these small run GECs or great deals on vintage knives on the bay. I can't take it anymore!! I've already parted with a spyderco southard, emerson, and a kizer but that's just the beginning.

I'll be keeping my rat I, rat II, and my minigrip. Let a new chapter in my knife collecting sickness begin!!

Does anyone else find themselves selling off modern folders that they maybe started with so that they could expand their traditional collection?

I have a very small collection, about three modern knives (one of which is also a Mini-Grip) and about five traditionals. I got interested in the moderns first and had all of the three before I jumped into the traditional waters. But like you, now I wish I'd never bought the modern knives. And, also like you, if I were to keep one it'd be the MG.

I like a lot of knives but I carry hand made slipjoints. Check out my sight when you get your " walkin' around money" :)

Yeah, im even letting the paramilitary 2 go over the minigrgip. I'm about 30-40 modern folders deep before i started getting into traditionals so I should have quite a chunk of spending money :D Also, nobody gives you a dirty look when you take out a traditional.

I keep around a few moderns. A couple have high senimental value and a couple are just too darn good at hard cutting. One of which is my Rat 1. The rest is now traditional which I exclusively carry. The simple carbon steel seems to get sharper, sharpen more easily and have blade geometry that excels in my area of use. Besides, who doesn't love a little jigged bone?

A true knife knut loves all knives :) You'll be back to Ti when something flips your trigger, maybe though it will be a Ti slipjoint.

I like both. Usually go back and forth on both buying and carry.

+1 for vcm.

Don't limit yourself. I laugh at people who swear they hate x or y general knives. Reminds me of racists lol. They all appeal in some way (with the exception of a few models. There's always the really bad designs)

Yeah, im sure ill be back eventually, just no interest in the moment and like i said, all these production modern folders are mass produced and I keep missing these SFOs and GEC knives that are limited to 25-100 in production. I can always go back and buy another ZT 561 or PM2 if I want. They made like, a billion or something :D

I totally understand your thinking Kitten Party , I was thinking that I would get a ZT 808 or 450...but gonna keep it to one modern and the rest traditional. My latest addition is in the the modern/trad pairing thread. benchmade 941 cf with a Lannys Clip

I just posted this in another thread.

Please keep the photos of traditional knives only. There's one thread in this forum where you can post modern knives when paired with traditionals, http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/sh...odern-pairings.

If you've already posted something here that I'll have to remove, you might want to quickly do an edit.
Them's the rules.

I still like and carry both! My latest foray has been a carbon fiber hybrid traditional modern slippie by cold steel!

Many of the Custom slipjoints will get you in that deep...but to me it satisfies more than a sebenza.

What brownshoe said.
I tried the traddies but I'm back with a knife with a hole in the blade and a pocket clip. :)
I'll still on to my favorite traddies tho.

Short of a few multi-tools, I sold or gave all of my modern knives away awhile back. I figured if I needed something super strong and tough that a traditional fixed blade would be the ticket. Otherwise, traditional slippies was where it was at.

Almost 2 years ago I gave my brother a few knives before he went into air force training, several being moderns. No money was exchanged but I figure I was down 4 so am able to buy a few traditionals to get the accumulation back up. I have only 1 modern I think but 95% of the time I turn to the traditionals

Well, I sold my zt561 and was able to turn that into a schatt and morgan clip point barlow in ats-34, a boker 83880I Stockman, a USA schrade 8OT, and a bulldog medium congress in stag :D All new except the schrade bt it was in good, unsharpened condition. Pretty good trade for one oversized hunk of TI!! Now I just need to sit by the window and wait for the mailman

Samezies. I'm keeping one modern folder, but only because of its very specific application (Pacific Salt). Other than that I'm moving solely to traditionals. As far as missing out on SFOs and limited runs, don't worry about it. They're small enough batches that something else will come along shortly that will catch your fancy.
