Selling my modern folder collection for traditional knife spending money!

I'm sick. This sickness has taken me over and forced me to do the unbelievable. All of my cherished titanium framelocks are heading out and being replaced with rusty old pocket knives! Out with the new in with the old!!

It's pretty unbelievable. I really have very little interest in modern folders anymore and they are all in such large production numbers I can always pick them up down the road. But I keep missing out on all these small run GECs or great deals on vintage knives on the bay. I can't take it anymore!! I've already parted with a spyderco southard, emerson, and a kizer but that's just the beginning.

I'll be keeping my rat I, rat II, and my minigrip. Let a new chapter in my knife collecting sickness begin!!

Does anyone else find themselves selling off modern folders that they maybe started with so that they could expand their traditional collection?

Did exactly just that. I own no quality modern folding locking knives anymore except for one or two economy models. :D :D I regret nothing ahaha.

Well i have to say , I march to the beat of a different drum :)
I boxed up all my Traditional's except my SAK's about a year ago .
I won't sell them ever , but just put them away in a kind of time capsule , they will come back into favour with me one day I'm sure .
Over the last year I have been buying Moderns , and I'm really enjoying it to be honest .
I find Moderns are more suited to my work requirements .

I find myself in the same boat......well, sort of....well, the next boat over, but headed to the same port. LOL

I don't really have any of the high dollar Ti framelocks, because I really cannot afford them. I do have a few mid tech knives, and although there are a few I'd have to keep, I find myself wanting more traditional style folders.

The short of it is, as an example; I'd gladly trade my Spyderco Sage 1 for a GEC F&F #99 in micarta.

I have and thoroughly enjoy both. I've been moving towards quality in both accounts, CRK, George & Shirogorov on one extreme - Lloyd, GEC & Northwoods on the other. I like the auto's too, modern and traditional. Sure wish Queen would up their game, as I've unloaded all except for a few really old ones & a few S&M's.

One thing I really enjoy about accumulating traditionals is the fact you can pick up 4 or 5 REALLY nice ones for the price of one modern mid-tech.

If I'm going somewhere where only 1 knife is appropriate, like a business meeting, it will most likely be a traditional. They're just classier and more useful in that situation. Aside from that, I almost always carry both.

I definitely won't be getting rid of any of my modern blades. I do find my traditionals growing in numbers a lot more often though. I also am finding that when I would previously bring a PM2 or grip for heavy cutting or outdoor work, a fixed blade like the good 'ol sharpfinger or my GL Drew piece fits the bill a lot better.

I own exactly one modern blade. When I got it I was like - Woah! This is amazing!!! The future of knives is bright! But, when I go to put a knife in my pocket for the day, it never gets picked. I still only own one modern folder. And every time I look at it I think: "Woah! This is amazing!!!" And then I grab one of my trusty old traditionals.

Can't explain it, really. The traditionals speak to me, they make me daydream, I attach much more to them than being just a knife. It's as if they contain some secret knowledge or something. They make me Feel Good!

Enjoy your new experiences in the sweet world of soulful slipjoints!
